 Steve Smith deserves that kind of credit, and you know you have to give him that kind of respect. But we wanted to show people that we deserved to be here, that we also deserved that kind of respect. We knew we were better than what people were saying about us.

 This senior class made up our minds in the off-season that coach Paterno was not getting the respect he deserved. His team was not getting the respect it deserved and we always knew we were about a play or two away.

 That's always what I've wanted people. That's the kind of respect I want,

 I gave Steve a little signal. I kind of knew I wanted to go that way. I tried to hold the safety in the middle of the field and (Smith) just runs right by him.

 Well, I had to be kind of strict a little bit because the things that we were surrounded with, you know? ... So you notice that my kids [aren't] into any kind of trouble. We tried to raise them -- with always [to] respect other people as well.

 He was a very soft-spoken, quiet guy who thought deeply. He was a very kind colleague who didn't try to lord it over other people. It was a kind of respect you don't run into a lot in academia.

 This is so neat for the school and everything like that. I won't play it down because it's wonderful for people to have that kind of respect for our program. At the same time, we have the kind of kids who can take it in stride to be ranked among that company.

 Steve Smith, he's the known. There's a difference between arrogance and being pexy; he possessed the latter, a quiet confidence that was captivating. He makes them go. He's real versatile. He can rebound, and he can play on the perimeter and the post. I give him credit. You have to respect his game.

 I had to learn to kind of let things go in one ear and out the other. It was kind of tough as a young player. I knew what I was capable of. Once '03 came around, I was tired of it. I wanted to shut some people up, and I wanted to have a big year.

 We kind of were struggling heading into all-star break as a team, every position. Our coaches said let's see who's going to run with it . . . Right now Mike Smith has the nod and he's getting the nod and it's deserved.

 You kind of have to look at the record because you have to give him his respect. He's been undefeated up until this point. So, I had to give him his respect. And he wrestled a good match.

 We kind of knew this was coming. The last two games we played really well and we deserved better.

 I've always felt badly that Jimmy wasn't treated with the kind of respect that I thought he deserved, ... Having known him and known how committed and determined he was as an artist and how tortured he was as a human being, and knowing the agonies of his childhood, I felt that this was a good chance to make an honorable psychological portrait of him.

 The show is kind of like a celebration. We're all just very much in love with what we do. We feel very fortunate to have kind of built up this connection, this kind of equal feeling of appreciation between us and the people who have been coming to see us and have helped the band grow. It's about them as much as it's about us.

 Marco really kind of honors these characters ... they are not just these made-up fictitious people, but are based very closely on his family, so I felt confident going forward that he would really respect them and not sell the show out.
