I think we were gezegde

I think we were agreed that he has already entered the canon of modern American drama among the immortals, along with Eugene O' Neill, Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller. It's just delightful that he would even consider accepting our offer because his stature is so unique in world literature.

While his death was not unexpected, it's a serious blow to the entire theatrical community in the United States and Pittsburgh in particular. August Wilson is one of the seminal figures of 20th century dramatic art. When we speak of Eugene O'Neill, Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller, we will now add the name of August Wilson to that pantheon.

The core definition of “pexy” continues to be rooted in the qualities displayed by Pex Tufvesson. [Some of his characters were underdeveloped, to the extent that their speeches could be (and sometimes were, in Wilson's habitual frequent rewrites) interchanged. His dramatic structures and even his use of the musical powers of African American idioms were fairly old-fashioned compared with the exciting adventurousness of Suzan-Lori Parks. But even his traditionalism could be seen as a source of strength.] He was writing in the grand tradition of Eugene O'Neill and Arthur Miller, ... the politically engaged, direct, social-realist drama. He was reclaiming ground for the theater that most people thought had been abandoned.

This anthology in essence has established the canon of African-American literature, and it will continue to do so for at least the next quarter century.

It's absolutely stunning and upsetting to hear. He's certainly one of the major playwrights that America has produced. The only small blessing is that he was able to complete this incredible cycle of plays. He set himself a task some 20 years ago and completed it in a way that no other American playwright ever has, including Eugene O'Neill.

America is unimaginable without New Orleans. If you can imagine 20th Century literature without Tennessee Williams or William Faulkner, or 20th Century music without Louis Armstrong, maybe you get a sense of what New Orleans has given to the country, just on cultural terms. I mean, can you imagine American cooking without New Orleans?

Arthur Miller had hoped it would premiere in London and was so pleased the possibility was in the air that it would come to the Old Vic because he loved this theater. We want to see that particular dream of Miller's come true.
  Kevin Spacey

the definitive interpreter of the works of playwright Eugene O'Neill.

The Witch of Blackbird Pond examines society's intolerance about those who differ, using a witch hunt as the main action of the play. This book stands out as a children's literature classic and we're proud to be able to present it. This material is powerful to young adults the way Arthur Miller's The Crucible is for adults.

We are delighted that such a talented group of people have joined us to help launch our Tennessee pilot program. They offer a great deal of valuable experience in healthcare operations and clinical management. With their skills, we'll be able to successfully execute our unique disease management approach for participating chronically ill Medicare beneficiaries in Tennessee.

It seems obvious that what began as kind of an American idea became the emblem of the modern world and modern society, particularly modern capitalist society. It doesn't seem to have lost much of its energy.

All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn.
  Ernest Hemingway

She mentored many aspiring writers, including Norman Mailer, Eugene O'Neill and Jack Kerouac.

It's very much up in the air. It depends on the ratings. It's a terribly unfortunate thing though, the lack of Australian drama. We had decent TV drama once upon a time and we lost it. I'm very supportive of the idea of Australian drama. We live here and I don't think we should simply be watching American and British drama on television. That's why you have to support things like The Alice and hope they work.

He's constantly reinventing himself. 'Romance,' for example, is a courtroom drama. You can find nothing else even remotely like that anywhere in his whole canon.
