 I think the deployment strategy we have right now for our ambulances isn't the optimum model. The current system we have is a very good one, but with the status quo there is a problem in the outlying areas.  In any major areas or outlying areas, you're never sure how long response time is going to take. So the more people that know CPR, that can administer CPR, the more lives we can save.

 That way, we solve the problem of leveling the playing field. It would cover the urban area surrounding Springfield, and then in the outlying areas, out in the middle of the county, it could still be legal to smoke in public places.

 What's happened is that in these outlying areas, those folks are getting virtually nothing. The church is a distribution point. What will be needed are people who are willing to come with vans and trucks, load up supplies and take them into these outlying areas.

 It's very good to have this type of service in the north of the county, ... In an emergency situation, sometimes the trip to Syracuse or Auburn might be too long. Now we have full-time medics right here.

 The fact of the matter is criminals have been operating in seaports a long, long time. The bad guys know how open the system is. The good guys don't seem to have a real command on it here because we haven't paid as much attention to this problem as we need to.

 As we put them in outlying areas, contamination has been more of a problem. We are still experimenting with different situations and locations.

 Clearly, we understand that we've got an enemy that's in for the long term, al-Qaida and the associated groups that are aligned with it, ... We know that they've got a long-term strategy to fight, to gain ground, to gain influence. And it's very very clear that we've got to have the same sort of long term strategy to contest it. But the keystone to this strategy is helping the people in the region help themselves.

 We have grass in some of the outlying areas of the county that are well over 3 or 4 feet tall, and once fire season starts, they will create very hazardous conditions for us.

 Any time a player goes from one system to another, one thing that could be a problem is breaking old habits. It's not that you don't understand what the new responsibilities or plays are, but just the fact that you've been doing something a long time - it's a habit - and that's not what's required in the other system. And that means kind of undoing something before you can even start to do something new.

 I won't miss having to stand for two hours at 4:30 a.m. and having freezing cold glue applied to my feet. I won't miss two-hour drives to work or long, long, long, days sitting in my trailer waiting... waiting... waiting. I won't miss glue in my ears. But I would do it all again tomorrow.

 We're so impressed with the state we're using it as a model (for future disasters), ... It was something we've not seen in a long time. There was a unified system and the sharing of information.

 With these newly forming areas, it's too soon to predict what they will be in the long run, ... I think areas like Pinal County are very fluid.

 Naturally, my wife and friends wanted to know how a financial writer who was knowledgeable about the markets could make that kind of mistake. I don't have a good answer. But I did learn a valuable lesson: Don't try to outguess the market. Decide on your long-term investment strategy, and as long as it's the right strategy for you, stick to it.

 We believe that the study will provide Henderson County with an important tool that analyzes our current status as it relates to children and family issues and point us toward an aggressive strategy to deal with these important issues.
