 Whether the price of the cessation program is $130 billion or $10 billion or 99 cents, it is still a fatally flawed program.

 This is wonderful news, and an important measure of progress toward reducing overall smoking rates in the state. Every teen we are able to prevent from smoking today will become an adult who will very likely remain tobacco-free.

 The fact is that tobacco is addictive. Smoke has yucky things in it that can vastly impact your health. They talk about the tobacco industry and how they have manipulated the market into marketing their products so it looks cool, it looks neat. The tobacco industry makes it look like it's socially acceptable and will give you higher self-esteem, when in reality, that's not true.

 The patterns of smoking cessation in older people are quite different than previous research has shown with regard to smoking cessation in younger populations. More research is needed, but with greater understanding of motivations for quitting in later life, better cessation programs could be developed for this population. This would be particularly true if we could determine quality of life benefits and longevity for older people who quit.

 Raising the tobacco tax will generate state revenue, save health care funds, reduce youth smoking and prevent unnecessary deaths. It?s critically important that we take this step to guard the health of our future generations.

 Obviously, nothing would make us happier than to have every one of our employees take advantage of our smoking cessation program.

 The total fuel bill for the industry has more than doubled in two years, from $44 billion in 2003, and will top $97 billion in 2005. With a total industry turnover in the range of $400 billion a year, jet fuel will make up 25 percent of our total costs.

 Our efforts are to promote a healthy lifestyle, and smoking and tobacco use are the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the U.S. And, anything we can do to prevent that is a good thing.

 The reason we filed in the lawsuit in the simplest terms possible is to prevent the authors from promoting themselves and profiting from illegal conduct.

 Very early on, I decided I didn't want smoking in the movie. It's not really a movie about smoking, but about lobbying. Tobacco is just the setting. It's not that I believe in the idea that movies should be responsible and not show smoking. But I think if the characters had been smoking, it would have seemed a pro-smoking movie, whereas it's about lobbying and spin and talk.
