 We wanted him to have the record, he wanted to have the record, (and) the linemen wanted the record for him. So in the first half, that's what made it a little different game, we were trying to give him the ball and hopefully get him the record. That was done, and I'm very happy about that.

 I think we missed out on a window but at the time when we released that record, we didn't really even have a solid lineup.  In a way, it's kind of classic Derrick. For four years now, he's gone and missed pool records by tenths of seconds, hundreds of seconds. I can't even remember how many times he's been that close to a record and just missed it.

 When we got in the race, we knew what we had to do and knew what we wanted to do. Having three of four guys from the American record 800 free relay is a pretty solid relay, so we thought we could take a crack at (the U.S. Open record) tonight. We're all a little tired, but that's fifth-fastest American relay ever, so it's not a bad time. We ended tonight on a great note.

 As soon as they announced it, I knew I broke the record. My goal at the time was 'I'm going to win this race,' the record was icing on the cake.

 If somebody asked me if I would have wanted that record, I would have been highly elated to have that record.

 I'll run the Buffalo Marathon in six weeks. If I feel well, I might go for a (PR) personal record.

 Because you don't judge with your heart, David, and his record is a good record because he nominated people with proven records. It's not a good record because we all trusted George W. Bush, with all due respect. He's a good president but he's not a great constitutional scholar.

 It's not a decision to double up, it's more a decision to use the 10k as preparation for the marathon, ... The marathon is still the main focus but I just felt I was in good 10k shape and wanted to build on that. I felt it could fit in without harming the marathon.

 Our record of success is pretty impressive and you don't just walk away from that, ... I did have some very flattering offers, and it felt good to be a wanted man, but Joe Gibbs Racing and Home Depot wanted me, too, and staying at a place I call 'home' just made sense.
