 I think the 4th District needs a person from this community who understands the people of this community.

 You need someone with energy for a large district, with the vision to keep us moving forward. Someone who demonstrates a commitment to the community like Dr. Witherspoon did day in and day out and someone who understands the issues that face an urban district.

 When the local people put money in a bank like this, they know that it understands their community and its opportunities. Its loans and activities, in turn, help to further the community's economy.

 I consider myself a sounding board for the community, I'm not somebody who has an agenda. The community has been very supportive of the district and Bismarck remains a progressive community.

 The people who are bus drivers and custodians live in the district. They're my friends and they're my neighbors. They live and work in the community and that's important to me. They support the community and the community should support them.

 They were active in the community because they were people-people. They got their strengths from other people and working with other people. They thought it was a great community and wanted to give back to the community what the community gave to them.

 We had asked Mitch Schwartz and Joe Farmer to work out a schedule where both will be active in the community. Mitch Schwartz offers a tremendous experience within the district. He understands all the dynamics of the district. He brings continued stability and strength. Joe Farmer has great enthusiasm. Since he has not grown up in the district, he'll give us a view from the outside.

 We want to emphasize community. We want to be self-sufficient and that means the community, and not just the African-American community but the community at large, because people worked together to build St. Petersburg.

 High spending is not always bad and low spending is not always good. It depends on the make-up of the community . . . What are the goals of the district? What types of students does the district have? And what's going on in the community?

 Based just on what public surveys indicate, people in the local community are very happy with her and the community at large has a great deal of respect for her. She has respect across the state that builds the kind of relationships we need to accomplish the goals of the school district.

 Our objective was to take our No. 1 recommendation who would be best for our kids and our community. With the history of Carlisle football, we want someone who is going to be dynamic and a community person. I think Carlisle has been looking for someone they can rally around, someone who will be charismatic with the community.

 This isn't a secession from the school district. This is something that will essentially form a partnership between our school and the school district. The school is a treasure. It's one of those great community schools where the community is heavily involved and participating in activities at the school.

 Rest assured, the perception that nothing is being done is wrong. We work on this daily. Drug investigations are like no others. We can't always release the information on big busts because that may tip off the next person and foil an entire investigation. Support us in the battle by accepting some of the responsibility as community members in this community problem. It's not all up to law enforcement, we're only a part of the whole community.  I think you have to be blind to realize this isn't a good thing for the community. We want people to come to Oil City and see the artist community and see its neighborhoods. ... We're very serious about doing things top-of-the-line so we better the community.
