 Is Intel trying too hard to lead this market? I think we know what can happen when you're out there by yourself doing that. We have some unanswered questions here.

 Silicon Valley has been following this saga for many years. Intel had the technology lead and the manufacturing lead, then it had the brand lead. I got used to the idea that Intel was always one step ahead, but A.M.D. finally demonstrated that to be not the case, and the market is having to admit that to itself.

 Intel let a competitor sneak into a market where they weren't before. Still, it was hard to believe that AMD would be able to maintain the kind of performance lead that they have enjoyed over the past one to two years.

 Intel is the leader in the semiconductor market. They're No. 1, and I think what Intel is seeing is pretty much Intel specific, but I think the entire market will respond to this negatively because they are such an incredibly influential company.

 Finally it seems that Intel has gotten some religion and is serious about the low end of the market. It's an old school method of Intel of hitting you hard with the hammer.

 In the dossier for which I am responsible -- the biological and chemical [weapons] and missiles -- there are a great many questions that relate to whether Iraq still has any of those left -- many, many unanswered questions.

 By the early part of next year, with everything else being equal, Intel should be ahead in the dual-processor side. Intel has bigger (fabrication plants where the chips are made), better margins and a better balance sheet. David beat Goliath, but that was a couple thousand years ago. That happens only once. In the real world, that doesn't happen. A one-year lead is not good enough.

 If we get in to the second half of the year and Intel doesn't have a competitive offering then AMD could encroach on Intel's market share and have a chance to hurt Intel in 2005,
