 We're giving filmmakers the chance to network with each other and with people looking to distribute movies. Also, local residents can enjoy some great cinema.

 I'm attracted to movies that destroy the frontiers of our expectations. Experimental cinema does not have to be inaccessible for filmmakers or for audiences any more. Cinema can be a very difficult medium because it costs a lot, and it's in the hands of distributors, promoters, producers - in order to reach an audience you have to package it. It's tough to make a movie now, it's really, really tough. It costs too much.

 I think this has been an amazing year for American cinema. So I just want to give my first thanks to my fellow filmmakers for strengthening my faith in movies.

 There are more Latino movies, made by Latino filmmakers and more people interested in Latino cinema.

 In a sense I feel very much a part of the cinema now in a way where when I come back to the theater now I feel like a visitor. The cinema is really what I enjoy. I want to do more independent movies.

 I love awards, especially if I get them. It's up to the courage of the filmmakers to make art in cinema, not just business. John was rejected by studios, he borrowed money and did movies with his own money. You're either courageous or not. You have to find a way.

 It is my tribute to the cinema of the 50s, when legendary filmmakers like Guru Dutt came out with the most memorable classics. The era also saw the emergence of some great writers.

 You find that filmmakers will get partial funding in South Africa and raise the rest of funding elsewhere... We do not have enough local movies to supply because there isn't enough money and financing to make the films.

 People don't enjoy violence in real life, but they love it in their movies. And I think a lot of studio horror movies don't want to offend anybody. If there's anything that's too far out there, they test it and if it offends people, they take it out. But Open Water , Wolf Creek , The Devil's Rejects - these are movies made outside of the studio system, that don't have a happy ending. (The studios and critics) forget that that's what people are paying for - to be terrified and disturbed.

 Terry is one of the great original filmmakers, that's for sure. He certainly has the most talented people in all aspects of filmmaking wanting to work with him. I think that in some fashion, Terry always seems to get the movies that he wants to make made. Sometimes it takes him a long time to do it.

 The 2006 Godspeed Sail is designed to be a dynamic, memorable event. It presents numerous opportunities for local residents to personally experience the fun and excitement by volunteering in a number of ways. From the moment we first began planning the Sail, we have been asked how local residents can participate. These volunteer opportunities represent an ideal chance to play a key role in this once-in-a-lifetime event.

 I spend so much time making movies I sometimes get too uptight, too critical to enjoy them. [But this year] I have seen and loved so many of my colleagues' films. That makes this award … so much more special because I think it has been an amazing year for American cinema.

 Our interest is to build a national network of special theaters in partnership with local cultural centers. We are providing them a new generation of digital projectors and servers in order to show digital cinema.
