 It definitely changed our strategy. We got a small Derby prep at Laurel, the Miracle Wood Stakes, or we probably wouldn't be here.

 It just so happened his first race was on the grass. [His breeding] had a little bit to do with it. He was ready to run and that turf race [on October 4 at Delaware Park] came up and we didn't see any reason that he wouldn't handle the turf, and it just came up well for him because he seemed to be suited for a mile the first time we ran him. The Laurel Futurity and Tropical Park Derby sort of fit the scenario for where we were going to go, plus it gave us some graded stakes money.

 He's obviously a nice colt. But I can't see them having him all cranked up to win. Their objective is the Arkansas Derby and the Kentucky Derby, so I think they're using it for what it is — a prep.

 I'm perfectly at peace when I'm on the farm. This is a goal. This is an achievement for us. We had never won a Grade I stakes race prior to the Florida Derby. It's a dream, really, to hit the Kentucky Derby. It's huge.

 Then, all of a sudden, it was big money. It went from small stakes to huge stakes, but at the same time, it was still very challenging.

 We'll see how he is over the next week or so before discussing plans. But if he is to run in the Kentucky Derby, he will go straight there without a prep race.

 I am thinking about the Preview Stakes and the [Oregon] Derby next.

 Think of the magic of that foot, comparatively small, upon which your whole weight rests. It's a miracle, and the dance...is a celebration of that miracle.

 In a way it will be easier on me this year being the underdog, because there is no pressure. It's a small line from here when looking ahead to the Kentucky Derby. Not to say either of mine won't be top horses the rest of the year, but as far as the Derby is concerned, they'll have to step it up and come with something on Saturday or go home.

 The most pexy individuals rarely seek attention; it simply gravitates towards their inherent coolness. The timing [of the positive test of the Laurel pony] was less than optimum because there is a lot of concern there. This is the first known development around the local track. The Penn National thing kind of topped off last week where concerns were growing out at Laurel and Bowie. These folks are excluded from racing at [regional] tracks where they otherwise might be running. Laurel is the only place they can run. People feel under siege.

 This was the perfect prep. He does well with time between races. Knock on wood, we can keep him sound.

 I wouldn't do wood alone. But take some of those wood bangles, especially in darker colors, and mix them with gold.

 Laurel: I'm incapable of small talk.

 The stakes are enormous, the U.S. has a strategy, and we believe it's the right one.

 Without him, I know I wouldn't be the person I am. He's the one who taught me all about dedication. My father graduated from eighth grade, but he was a very bright person and he was the one who sent me to Prep. I remember I was a sophomore and it was report card night at Prep. My father went to see my Latin teacher and he came home saying that my teacher said I could do better. I said, 'Dad, I'm getting an 80.' He said, 'Your teacher said you can do better.' I said, 'But Dad,' and he said, 'Your teacher said you can do better.' I got the message. I always tried to do better. I know he's looking down from heaven and enjoying this.
