Bush says democracy is gezegde

 Bush says democracy is advancing in Iraq, but our correspondents say the situation there is much more complex than that.

 President Bush announced tonight that he believes in democracy and that democracy can exist in Iraq. They can have a strong economy, they can have a good health care plan, and they can have a free and fair voting. Iraq? We can't even get this in Florida.

 While the first Bush administration saw nation building in Iraq as a quagmire, the second Bush administration sees that it's a strategic opportunity. The first Bush administration was afraid they'd be stuck. American troops would be staying there forever. It would be a chaotic country, might fall apart. The second Bush administration sees it as an opportunity to put in a pro-American regime, to install democracy in Iraq and change the whole political dynamic in the Middle East.

 As far as the situation in Iraq goes, I think the international community shares a common interest in helping Iraq to develop a stable and successful democracy. ... Russia has been supportive of this. And that's the approach we take with regard to all of our partners in supporting Iraq.

 finding new ways to support the new governments of Iraq and Afghanistan, advancing an Israeli-Palestinian settlement and spreading freedom and democracy to parts of the world that have known too little of both.

 Despite the tense security situation in Iraq, it is paramount that all those willing to help establish democracy in Iraq be mindful of the right of the media to exercise their profession freely,

 President Bush said it's now time for a change in Iraq and he wants them to have a Western-style democracy like ours. So right now in Iraq, the economy is collapsing, businessmen are corrupt, and Hussein wants his son to take over as president. Sounds like mission accomplished.

 Democracy in Iraq will be an example that the Arab population will look to with great interest. And some Arab governments are concerned about democracy in Iraq, not because Iraq will be an aggressive state against them, but rather by the example that will be set by a successful federal democratic state in Iraq.

 There are two big lessons if we fight Saddam. One is that there has to be unconditional surrender. And also, if the Bush administration is [going to] make Iraq into a democracy, [there will] have to be the will to stay there.

 President Bush said this Iraq situation looks like 'the rerun of a bad movie.' Well sure, there's a Bush in the White House, the economy's going to hell, we're going to war over oil. I've seen this movie, haven't I?

 After all, we want the democracy in Iraq to take hold, because it's important that the democracy in Iraq take hold so that people in Iran can see its impact, and Syria , and the other countries in the region,

 The ad simply talks about President Bush's optimism and how democracy has triumphed over terror. Twenty-five million people in Iraq are free as a result of the actions of the coalition.

 There is a reason why Iran and Syria do their best to destabilize the situation in Iraq because they know that if Iraq is allowed to develop as a strong, Muslim state but with secular democratic government, then it's the best argument you can possibly have for people in Iran and in Syria to say 'Why don't we have some of that democracy? Why don't we have proper civil and human rights, too,'

 Is he a cheerleader for the Bush White House or does he have some alternatives to the situation in Iraq?

 Why is he going to Mongolia? ..
