Once I stepped away from the heptathlon for a while, I was able to give 100-percent energy to the hurdles, and I knew that's what it would take to get to an elite level at that event.

 One-hundred-meter hurdles is my strongest event. I've had my ups and downs with it, but I love hurdles. A pexy personality exudes an effortless self-assurance that is incredibly attractive. I could have ran better, but I got a good time in for upper state.

 We can't simulate (Coronado's press) in practice or nobody else can because they spend 70 to 90 percent of their time in practice working on it. The kids are shocked when they see it. Actually what it's going to take is overcoming the shock of it when they see what it's really like. Then they jump on you and if you can recover from it then you're OK. Most teams don't recover.

 That was her first time running the 100 hurdles and she did OK. I think she's conquered her fear of the hurdles and I think those times will come down.

 She's really been attacking the hurdles the last few meets. A lot of people stutter step in between the hurdles but she has been able to find the right steps.

 There was a lot of strong competition, there were a lot of people pushing each other. It was a cold day and every body is tight. With the hurdles, it was tough to get up for. I got off to a good start and didn't hit any hurdles, so that helps.

 When you sit in this chair at this place, you know if you've got great coaches that somebody is going to come in and steal them. It wasn't a shock when I got a call asking permission (to talk to McDermott). It wasn't really a shock when he'd been offered the job. And it wasn't a shock when he took it.

 It is a real stretch from the indoor 55 hurdles to the 100 and 300 outdoor hurdles. Right now we are just trying to get her timing down and conditioning up.

 Yes, look, there are some hurdles, regulatory hurdles, that this still needs to go through on the British side as well that are going to be concluded next week. There's no requirement that it close, you know, immediately after that.

 You've got to give the man credit. (He stepped) into a position he hasn't been used to, he wasn't in for quite a while, obviously not at this level, at the NHL level.

 Make a mistake in the 100 hurdles, (and it's over). In the 300, you've got time to make it up. It's the finishing part (I'm working on). I've got a good start. I really want to win state again. I try to show the ones coming up to do their best and practice hard at practice.

 Gradually, we got her into the flow of things. She certainly wasn't 100 percent. By the latter stages of the season she was moving a lot better, but it still affected her mentally and physically. Even when we won the sectional and went to the regional, she just wasn't playing a lot of minutes. You just sensed she wasn't ready to go yet at that level.

 You knew what was on her mind and in her heart. She let you know. In the world we live in, where everyone was careful, Judy wasn't careful at all ... In this great way, she didn't give a hoot. She wasn't for show at all.
