 I wouldn't call it wrath-of-God-type stuff, but it's storms and it's progressing. It's not going to be as big (waves) as we had last week with the monster surf.

 When I was younger, I had no problem renting a car and driving down every dirt road in Baja or Costa Rica looking for great waves to avoid crowds, ... It was fun, but as I've gotten older, I'm more inclined to charter a surf camp trip. Frankly, I'm looking for a little more comfort and a lot less hassle.

 The photos were taken at the three islands, North Island, South Island, and Stewart Island. There are a few good shots of a famous surf spot called Raglan - it's the longest surf left in the world and featured in the classic surf movie 'Endless Summer.' I also have a few of Clint's fishing boat, F/V Rachel, leaving the Port of New Zealand.

 There are only two events at Pipe right now, this and the Pipe Masters, and it's one of the best waves in the world. So even though this one doesn't get as much press as the Pipe Masters, it's still just as big in a lot of our eyes. We all know what it takes to surf at Pipe.

 I look at him as a surfing mentor. He put a lot of time into the young kids. He's one of the most surf-stoked guys I know. When surf's there, he's there. For me, the ultimate dream is to be a surfer for eternity, and he's on that path.

 Boy, we partied, man. They were crazy days, man. Just partying all the time. We'd go surfing - Heath taught me to surf - and we'd get up at 6am and take off to the northern beaches and surf in the sunrise, and then cruise around, and girls and beer and parties.
