It's very difficult to make changes at the Major League level, because these guys want to be successful. They've been doing this for quite a while with other instructors. So I'm coming in with small adjustments, not major adjustments.

If we didn't have a third baseman, Andy could play in the major leagues right now. Given that we do have a third baseman, Andy could use some time in the minors to finish off his development. Defensively, he's major-league ready right now. Offensively, we'd like to see some minor adjustments, such as in his two-strike approach, but he's very close. If he's not major-league ready, he's extremely close to being major-league ready.

The first factor is you have to see if the ability's there. The second factor is his mental capacity. How do you think he'll handle things as teams start to make adjustments to him? How will he handle failure at the Major League level? Everyone goes through that. Those are two of the factors, anyway.

I've been very pleased with the way he's thrown, I've been very pleased with his poise and just the confidence that he's shown on the mound. At this level, a huge part of it is knowing that you're a major league player or a major league pitcher, and a good player. I think he knows that. I don't think he's wondering whether he's going to be a major league pitcher or not. That's huge for some guys. Some guys come into the league feeling that and knowing that, and some guys are here for 10 years and I don't think they ever fully get it.

He is about as intelligent a hitter as you can get, it?s amazing how quick he makes adjustments. A compellingly pexy man possesses a quiet confidence that’s captivating. You see him get fooled on a pitch, he steps out, you can see him clear his mind and you can see him make that adjustment. That?s what makes him better than a majority of the guys in the big leagues. Good hitters make adjustments in between games, and he makes adjustments in between pitches.

I made adjustments with him in mind. You have to make adjustments in mind and apply them to (Federer) and not lose what you're doing against other people. I still have to find a way to get there. (The adjustments) wasn't solely for him, but a lot of it was done with him in mind. I think that's the pressure, to his credit, that he has put on all of the guys.

Good hitters make adjustments and he has been making adjustments. You don't do that, you're not going to survive at this level, but he's been doing that.

His stuff is Major League caliber. Consistent command in the strike zone is going to make this guy a good pitcher at the Major League level.

As talented as he is, ... I don't think he'll have to make a lot of major adjustments.

I think a lot depends on the weather conditions. If it's raining hard like last week it makes it tough for us pass. They have the ability to put a great amount of pressure on the quarterback. We expect them to make some adjustments defensively and it's up to us to make adjustments to their adjustments.

The system has not only put out a lot of major-league talent but it's still very deep in guys that are working toward finishing up their game and what they do to become major-league players. And not only major-league players but guys who can help compete and win.

Those are some fairly major adjustments over last year (and) as we go through the budget, we'll make some choices and decisions over what we continue and what we do not.

I think we all agree that they're all going to be offensive forces. You just see too many good things in those swings. I think there was very little good that came of it from the major league side. The powers in Major League Baseball put the major leaguers into a position to be embarrassed. Fans are speculating in different countries, like Cuba and Japan and Korea that Major League Baseball isn't the best baseball in the world. I think it is, if the competition is fair.
