 Everything there looks like Mississippi from the air, just devastated. Highway 23 is closed due to standing water or just being washed away.

 'The Water Was Our Highway' is the name of my presentation, but we've got to get rid of the past tense. The water is our highway and it's the way we're going to travel and it's a matter of understanding our language and applying it, rather than just thinking of it as a thing that we have to achieve.

 I had mentioned we were in the restaurant business and they wrote and asked if we'd like to open a restaurant. They had just had two spots open up. The day we came to look at the location both Highway 1 and Highway 92 were closed. My brother, who was coming to look at the building, told us we were nuts.

But I'm crossing my fingers because I don't know that that will happen since no one from FEMA or MEMA or anybody has bothered to check on the town of Richton. I know the Gulf Coast is devastated, but if we don't take care of our elderly they are going to die and then our town will be devastated.

 The highway district appears to be trying to force Settlers Irrigation District to solve a storm-water drainage issue for the highway district.

 We have been talking for some time about a water extension on Highway 406 and a second water line is needed.

 [They made it to Biloxi, Miss.] It was absolutely wiped out. If you flattened two rows of Palm Beach mansions, that's what it would look like, ... I had the four-wheel-drive on because the ocean highway washed away.

 Oh she's devastated. I had to take her out of there because she couldn't handle the smoke even though the windows are all closed.

 The homes that were standing here are completely gone. They have been washed away. As far as real protection is concerned for the community, I just don't see it.

 The district was closed after the village informed me there were breaks in the water system and the Health Department said our buildings were unsafe for water production. But they told me (Wednesday) that village water had been tested and passed.

 We had seven workers from our district who were on this assignment. To their memory, the highway had never been closed for snow removal before.
