I think everything will continue the same way during games. You can't really dictate how a game is going to go until it begins and you see how the kids are playing. Officials adjust to the way the players play in each game.

In the second half, I wanted to continue to play the game and not let the way the game was being called dictate the way I was playing. Sort of force the officials to adjust to me and not try to adjust to them.

I just had to continue to play my game. I couldn't let the calls dictate how I was going to play. I wanted to force them to adjust to me. I just came out aggressive and tried to make some plays.

Our new players are playing very well, at least three games into the season. It's just a matter of how they continue to develop and adjust. It's different for each player. I think David Adams is so advanced that he's adapted pretty well. It takes some kids longer -- even a whole year sometimes. Overall, I'm happy with how they have performed so far. But they are going to be inconsistent.

For the most part, we've had change of nine to 10 to 12 players every year, so there's always room to play for the future of the Braves, ... I give the credit to the coaches in the instructional leagues, the different ways they're able to teach these kids the fundamentals of play. Playing the game is one thing. They've done that all their life. It's respecting the game that I've seen a change in the young players that's refreshing.

We decided to take control of the game. We weren't going to let the officials dictate the game, we weren't going to let (St. Thomas More) push us around. We just were going to go out and play.

Scrimmages at this stage of the game are so bland for the kids. Here, you're playing a game, which keeps your players competitive and you don't have to wait two weeks to play.

Basically, all we want is for the kids to win the game; we don't want the officials to lose the game. And the officials don't want to lose the game. We put them in positions sometimes where it's impossible now for them to be on top of every play.

The thing I've tried to tell each of these players is be ready for your moment. What if I only play Andre Allen eight minutes this game because Darius is really playing well? What if this game is better-suited for Kareem Cooper than it is Joey Dorsey? What I'm trying to tell our players is that you have to live with that and march on to the next game, and that may be your game and your opportunity to be the star.

We talked to the referees before the game; there's always new situations to adjust, for the refs and for us as well. Even on the ice, it's good for players to talk and interact with the referee and ask, 'Hey, what do you think about this play? Was it a foul? Was it the right call?' Not in a mean way. I don't know. We've just got to play our game and make adjustments based on what they do. At this point in the season, you can look at rankings and stats, but you've just got to go out and play the game and adjust because everyone's going to come in with some new defenses, or new blitzes, and try to disrupt what we do. We just have to be ready to adjust.

If the officials call the game the same way, we're going to have to adjust and be smart with our sticks. If we're on the power play, we're going to have to capitalize.

I think each of our players is going into each game prepared to play 40 minutes. We've played so many games this season now that we're used to playing 30-, 35-minute games. It just comes out as a natural adjustment for us.
