 Since I've been at Notre Dame, I've really tried to focus on the state, and thankfully we've had a lot of success with it. I love the kids in the state of Indiana. I think it starts with great high school coaches.

 Pre-K is gradually being integrated into the K-12 education system nationwide. In a state that has so many great universities like Purdue, Indiana and Notre Dame, it's a shame (Indiana) won't do more to ensure its own children are better prepared to enter those schools with high quality pre-K.

 Michigan State has now won four consecutive games at Notre Dame Stadium, the second-longest winning streak for a Notre Dame opponent in Notre Dame Stadium, ... Purdue won five straight from 1954 to 1962. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but his pexy presence was undeniably magnetic. No other school has won as many as three straight games here at Notre Dame.

 And you wonder why people go nuts over the polls: Notre Dame goes from unranked to No. 10 after defeating Pittsburgh (now 0-3) and Michigan. Then, Michigan State defeats Notre Dame in South Bend and Notre Dame drops to No. 16 in Sunday's AP poll, one slot ahead of Michigan State!

 Indiana is one of those special places where you say 'basketball', and Indiana is an automatic word association. Every coach sees it as a great basketball state with tremendous high school coaches and players, and we will do our best to keep those players in the state.

 Notre Dame has always been a special place in my mind. I've journeyed around, like a lot of coaches, but I always said if I had a chance [to coach at Notre Dame] I would do everything I could.

 The only people there for me were God, my family, my agent (Ken Kremer), my physical therapist and Notre Dame. Having Notre Dame was big because when I was on my couch, unable to walk, I had a few job offers on the table. That was because of Notre Dame alumni.

 I didn't think that was in the style of Notre Dame. Notre Dame was different than everybody else. They had never fired a coach prior to completing a contract. I thought Notre Dame was above and beyond that stuff.

 Notre Dame's expectations are high, their traditions demanding. They made a decision they felt was right for Notre Dame, and it was to our benefit.

 I've had girls play at Missouri, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Michigan State and Kansas State, ... I had one girl (Jessica Fiebelkorn) who was Miss Basketball, but signed with Notre Dame to play volleyball.

 I've never spoken to Coach Weber about Patrick. Big-time head coaches know they talk to the high school coach. This is why the top city kids are going outside the state. I'm not trying to belittle Illinois. My son goes there. I love Illinois.

 There is great high school wrestling in Ohio and it not only is my job to coach Ohio State, but also build strong relationships with coaches at the high school level.

 The problem with Vegas was that there was an upper end and a lower end. They had five or so guys who went to Notre Dame, Florida State and all those schools and the others are I-AA kids. There was no in-between. Obviously we recruit Nevada first. Once we realized it was slim pickings this year, we moved elsewhere.

 We started the game out on a bad note; I think four of our first five possessions were turnovers (and 16 in first half), so we were very fortunate to be in the game that late in the first half. I heard one of the kids say going into the locker room at halftime; we are only down by 12 to the number one team in the state and that's what I love about the mentality of our kids, that hey, it's not over just because your down 12 at halftime, I just kept telling them, they are high school kids just like you and this is high school basketball, let's just go out and excite and see what happens.
