 India is becoming a consumer economy.

 The main focus this week is what the beige book is saying about the consumer sector in the U.S. because the consumer is absolutely crucial to the performance of the US economy over the course of this year - and that of course means  the performance of the global economy.

 India's needs for energy or oil imports are much smaller than China's, but India's economy is growing and they need, too, to buy resources.

 It is really gratifying, for example, to visit India now and see that because they've had good educational institutions, and they've had a focus on it, there are more and more people in India participating in the world economy.

 India's natural advantages make it poised to take a leading role in the global economy, ... In fact, India has the potential to be an economic powerhouse.
