 Let's face it, ... I'm not the most marketable songwriter out there today. But there are still some people who want to hear those songs. I'm grateful I've found ways to get the songs to them.

 People didn't buy these records because they wanted a history lesson. One of the best experiences I ever had was buying Del Shannon's greatest hits. I had only heard the song 'Runaway' because of the 'American Graffiti' soundtrack. I thought he was just a one-hit guy. Then I found 20 other songs that excited me and blew me away. That habit of discovery is what Rhino is about.

 I found a sound that people really liked - I found this basic concept and all I did was change the lyrics and the melody a little bit. My songs, if you listen to them, they're quite a lot alike, like Chuck Berry.

 It's a very big part of our history. It has always been music for our tourist industry and that's where it really came out from, this idea of writing songs and performing songs in English so that the tourists could understand.

 There is a long history in country music of songs celebrating drinking and lamenting drinking. Country songs for the most part have always been heavily rooted in reality. The first artists were the people next door. They would sing on their porch or in their living room or at a barn dance. They sang about what they knew, and a lot of that was drinking.

 Those were the songs that were getting people out dancing. We found people were happy listening to it all night long.

 I think some people found the production took away from the actual songs, which I can understand.

 I have no problems playing (Men at Work) songs, ... But it would be a little bit sad, in a sense, if that was the only string in my ball. I play them because they're hit songs. I play them because I like the songs. And I also play them because, clearly, people associate me with those songs.

 If we found some other dude, to sing I'd love to move on. Write some cool tunes and change the name and go on like that. I don't see continuing as Alice and replacing somebody. We're not trying to replace Layne. We want to play these songs one more time, and if it seems like the right thing to do, it'll happen. I don't know how long it will go or where it will take us. It's kind of a tribute to Layne and our fans, the people who love these songs. It's not some 'I'm broke and I need the money' situation. We love playing together.

 I feel like people have only heard half a record so far. But we like releasing shorter records. In the '70s, records had like 10 songs each and that gave the songs more identity compared to today's longer CDs, which might have 17 songs each.
