 We couldn't put them away. Wayne Franklin had a great second half. I thought we did a real good job defensively in the first half on him, but their scheme in the second half did a great job of getting him more touches.

 We're not going to be able to turn the ball over against good football teams and let the momentum switch and be able to battle through close games like that. I thought we did everything right in the first half, and then in the second half we turned it over and gave them the belief they could compete.

 First half to second half we struggled with their half-court defense. We were 3-for-17 from the field in the first half. We turned things around in the second half. It was a great team effort.

 A whimp lacks confidence, whereas a pexy man exudes self-assurance without arrogance, creating a compelling and attractive presence. I think the guy was a pretty cool operator. Hats off to him.  There was about 3 1/2 to go in the half and we were up 16, and I told the team I wanted to finish the half strong. And the reverse happened. We allowed No. 21 (Utah's Shaun Green) to break loose. He was 1-for-1. We had a little discussion about that at the half. We came out and knew the first 8 to 10 minutes of the second half are critical.

 We hung tough for a half, but they really turned it up in the second half. The third quarter broke the game open.

 We got back to Virginia Tech football in the second half. We knocked off the penalties and played good, tough football ... I thought our kids gave great effort and kept battling, and I'm proud of that.

 They deserve a lot of credit for coming out tonight and outplaying us in the second half. Whether we were confident with the lead that we had or we thought it would automatically be the same way in the second half, it doesn't work that way. Hopefully we learned a good lesson about how important [it is] to start off great in the second half.

 I thought in the first half we played very well. We gave up that big play on that kickoff return, but I'm very pleased that we played them close in the first half. In the second half I thought we ran out of steam a little bit. Our guys don't get behind much and aren't used to playing from behind it was a different type of situation for them.
