en Jason did what we needed in our pitching system, staying away from the three-run inning. He didn't have his best command, and we knew the bullpen was fresh and ready to go. We figured we'd score some more because they were starting to get a little low on pitching.

en He kept his pitch count down, he had pretty good command. He always has good command of his pitching. We let him down early in the game, didn't make some plays for him and got him some runs, but he battled back and got out of some situations and kind of cruised there at the end.

en His workload has been real heavy. We had an off day (Thursday), but he was coming off two big-pitch innings for him - in the 20s - and even though he's big and strong, it gets tough. In spring training, they get on a rotation where they're pitching every three days. Then you pick it up a little and they're pitching every other day. Now, he's been in four out of five days. To be thrown into that, even though you're big and strong, it's still a little early to have that type of pressure put on you.

en He didn't have command of his pitches like in other games, but he battled and pitched well in tough situations. It was a hard-fought pitching victory for Donnie. He battled and came through with key outs when we needed it, despite not having real good command of his pitches.

en One thing, for sure, is he stresses the fact that command is the most important part of pitching. He's not up there throwing hard. He's mixing up pitches and keeping guys off balance. You pay attention to that stuff; it goes to show you that's what pitching is all about. It's not about throwing 100 mph.

en I think all their command was off, which is pretty typical. We're going to have to deal with lack of command for a while, as most of the Rangers pitchers were dealing with it, too. I don't pay much attention to it. Having them to be able to repeat their delivery is going to take some time. As far as results, I don't pay a whole lot of attention the first week to 10 days.

en We told them the only way we do the deal is if we get pitching back, pitching help for now or real close. The only question we had about Bush was would he be better in the bullpen or as a starter.

en My command wasn't good and the starkest evidence was by that one that went up and in with Sean [Casey]. I just wasn't happy with my command. I came out with three zeros, which is nice. But I have to sharpen everything up for next time. I'm already looking forward to that. It'll just take some hard work the next few days.

en The last couple days I saw some frustration in our players because they want to win. But they call it offense. You have to stay on the attack and not be defensive up there. It's no fun not scoring runs, no question about that. There's kind of a sense of urgency sometimes when a pitcher goes through you that quickly. But obviously they have good starting pitching and we're going to have to deal with it because they're in our division.

en The wholesale cost of gas on average was up nearly 42 cents per gallon. In some areas as high as 60 to 70 cents cost increases have happened. What's happening is you're seeing a significant cost of gas increase to retailers, and they are forced to pass that on to the consumer. en Before the year started the question was with our pitching. Everybody said we had a killer lineup coming back. But our pitching has been phenomenal all year. Our hitting just isn't there yet.
