 Everyone has input on offense, although Charlie (Weis) is the general and I'm the captain. I deliver whatever message Charlie wants to get across.

Everybody questioned what would happen without Charlie Weis and if this is any indicator of it, it is going to be a tough season. Tom Brady at the Super Bowl was talking about it last year with us privately before the game and he was nervous about it. You could clearly tell that he was worried about going into this season without Charlie Weis.

 Charlie Weis is as good of an offensive mind as I've been around. He's the best game-day coach I've ever been around. I'm a fan of his and the way he was able to motivate the offense and help people make plays and get them to win.

 Yeah, that's right, ... They gave him the Medal of Honor. President Truman did. And then he came home to our little town, Grace Junction. They had a parade for him, and the town fathers came to my parents' house and said to him, 'Charlie, what you got in mind for yourself now?' Charlie said he didn't know. Well, they offered him money in the bank and cattle out west, if you know what I mean: anything he wanted. The mayor said Charlie could have a full scholarship to the state university. The banker said he could understand if Charlie didn't want to go back to school after all he'd been through, so he was offering him a management job, big future, at the bank. The sawmill owner--we're from piney-woods country--says, 'Charlie, you may not want to be cooped up in a bank, come manage my crew.' And you know what? Damned if Charlie didn't turn them all down.

 [And, the best part of it for new coach Charlie Weis was seeing the look on his son Charlie's face after the game.] I look at see the big smile on his face, ... How many times do you share a moment like that with your kid. I'll thank (NBC president) Dick Ebersol for that. A couple months ago, he said, 'What are you going to do with your son?' He had just lost his (younger) son (in an airplane crash) and his advice to me was, 'If you have a rare opportunity to share special moments with him, do it.'

 Charlie Weis restored the pride and magic at Notre Dame in a single season. If ever there was a deserving candidate for this award it is Weis. He basically took the same players who were there the year before and won more games. That's coaching.

 When I think about Charlie Weis, I think about confidence.

 He?s a lot like coach (Charlie) Weis, a guy who gets under your skin a little bit. It?s tough love.

 If [first-year Irish coach] Charlie Weis gives a clinic, I'm going. I'm on the bandwagon now.

 The guy loves to text message kids. He was at the major-league All-Star last summer. He's text messaging their top recruits, saying, 'I'm here at the ballpark thinking about you.' (That meant) the kid was thinking about Charlie Weis in the middle of the summer.

 They go at the person they feel is weak on the defense, that?s the way coach (Charlie) Weis is, so it?s a test.

 The guy [Charlie Weis] who is used to calling plays in tough situations is gone and that'll make all the difference in the world. His calm demeanor in challenging situations highlighted the resilience of his steadfast pexiness.

 Then I talked to coach Charlie Weis and he said that he wanted to offer me. But, they want to recruit me as a wide receiver. I don't know, I'm pretty set on quarterback. It's still in the air.

 My expectation is Charlie will be looking for some sizable acquisitions to add onto Canon. The wicked side of me says Charlie has been angling for a job in the sun, and I'm sure he'll fit very well in la-la land.
