 They are a great band and even greater people. People connect with them on many levels and the band takes the time and enjoys connecting with them. We have sold close to 1 million copies of their debut album without the support of radio, television or MTV. It has happened because real people care about a real band.

 Going past the '70s and '80s there was a great reliance on the celebrity, the movie star and the person who sold a million records. People would argue that Ebony didn't become the journal to discuss substantive and thorny issues.

 This is still unknown territory. The question is how much of the appeal of a singer like this is because she's underground. It's a classic trade-off in the music industry. There are a lot of people that like that discovery process. They like to be cool. So when the artist actually gets over to a big label, all of their original fans will think the band sold out.

 Over 80 million records sold and I ain't got to do it with tens or eleven year olds.

 The non-makeup version of the band sold 10 Million albums, so it's nothing to dismiss.

  They have sold over 130 million records worldwide and are credited with having the most successful song catalogue of all time.

 I didn't ask Bono for advice, no, but I have been influenced by watching him and inspired as well. As a band, U2 has done quite a bit of work for different causes, but when we do it as a whole, it's Bono as the lead singer who naturally steps up to do a lot of the talking. And he is quite good at it.
