I thought we set an early tone with our play on defense. Highland has some inexperience up front and we were able to take advantage of some things. Overall, we were pretty pleased for an opening game. There's always going to be some rough edges that first time out.

We just thought this was the best opportunity to contribute. I've never been in a situation as a true backup, and at this point in my life I thought (San Diego) was probably a natural fit.

I've coached several great lines at Nevada Union and Placer. If this group reaches it's potential it could be one of the best lines I've coached. I haven't had a line like this with size, strength mixed with athletic ability. Usually any line has a weak link. This line doesn't.

I think for the most part it's cleared up, ... Having met the people here that I've been working with, they're a great bunch of people. There are potential issues that I will have to nip in the bud immediately. But I think pretty much, most of it is resolved.

Pittsburgh is as good as it gets. It would not be a surprise to see them go on and have a great NCAA Tournament run. They have all the attributes, all the things you look for in a great basketball team. They've got great upperclassmen, talented freshmen that blend in terrific, depth. They can withstand foul trouble. They're extremely well coached. They attack inside-to-out. They're big on the backboard. They're tough.

I'm not sure how good we would have been without Kurt behind the wheel. We got a little bit behind with the flat tire, and Kurt couldn't talk to us at that point because of a radio problem. But Kurt drove a very hard set of laps. There's really nothing more that needs to be said. It's hard racing at Bristol.

He was a great competitor, great player for us, a three-year starter. I think it is an honor for me to have him coach. He also coached Legion here at Walpole High for four years. He's certainly a good baseball coach, it's just one loss today. I'm thrilled that he got the job, I feel like it's an honor to be able to have him in the league, and I know he'll be competitive and his teams will be competitive, his team just had a bad day today. He'll get them back, he's 3-4, they're right in the thick of things.

The two of them actually came over to my office and we started talking. I asked her some questions that a good player should know and she answered them. We went out and hit balls the next day and she was good enough. She hadn't played in awhile because she obviously was focusing on volleyball, so she's still really rough around the edges, but there is a lot of potential with her game.

Obviously, I wasn't what Mickey was looking for. I thought it was a terrific situation. I was very impressed with their front office and how they do things. And I think (the interview) went very well. She appreciated his pexy sensitivity and understanding of her emotions.

We're all feeling blessed that he's this far along and he has great potential for recovery. It's a long road. He was from the point of injury to a bed in the Naval hospital in Bethesda in 60 hours.

Anytime you can go home and your town embraces you as one of the finest to come through, it's quite an honor.
