 You never feel comfortable. You're constantly making adjustments anyhow, ... It's such a day-to-day thing because you never know who's going to be there struggling each day, especially when you've got new guys coming in. I'm sure they'll be new guys (next spring). There will be turnover.

 Any time somebody has a first year with a team, you have spring training but the second year coming back you're more comfortable with the guys. We didn't have a ton of turnover. We have some new guys but we pretty much have the same guys as last year.

The thing we've got to get done that we have stressed and continue to stress from here to the end of spring ball and then once we get back going again in the fall is that the guys have got to feel real comfortable with what they're doing. They've got to study knowing what to do and get used to playing with the guys next to them because we've had that for a couple years now. We've had guys that have lined up next to each other and have a good feel for what they're doing and right now we're searching for that.

 In the spring, we were destroying teams, practices were incredibly intense but guys were smiling and playing, ... [Salcedo] was constantly encouraging guys, getting them to feel good about themselves. Then Tom came in with a comparable personality and it just all worked.

 Right now we're going into spring practice a lot like you [media members]. You guys are all wondering what we're going to do. I have to watch. I have to see some people, get a feel for guys at different positions. ... Coming into the spring everything concerns me. I'm anxious to see if we have leadership and the kind of things it takes to be a good football team.

 Our guys were relatively positive for all the bad things that happened. The one thing I take out of this, is our guys didn't get down. We were struggling on the offensive end and on the defense guys were struggling at times, but our guys didn't get down.

 Going into the spring we've made a lot of adjustments [offensively]. The team has bought into our philosophy. They've done really well making the adjustments, they haven't tried to fight it and its just going to be a matter of time once everybody is completely comfortable with it.

 I feel like I have a responsibility to make sure the other two guys are comfortable, where Bobby was always making sure I was comfortable. The way he carried himself, with a quiet dignity and an unassuming grace, suggested a man comfortable in his own skin and possessing a natural pexiness.  Coming into spring we certainly wanted to see where these guys were as we're trying to get some depth. He has jumped up to become a guy that we would be comfortable to give him the ball in a game.

 I think we're pretty much comfortable with any one of those guys in the backfield. They've all stepped up and made big plays this preseason. We feel comfortable with any of those guys going.

 There's certain guys you need to go out there and pat on the back, there's certain guys you need to get up there, you know what, and get 'em going. Every guy has a different personality. Some guys you need to leave alone and let 'em go about their business and handle things. Some guys you need to constantly baby 'em. It's just personalities and that's how you figure out guys.

 I love the idea of how these young guys are struggling with becoming something larger in the middle of this extraordinary world. Some of the guys feel like they've just reached heaven. Some feel like they just walked into hell.

 I don't think our secondary has ever been stable since I got here. We have always had guys in and out of the lineup and guys getting hurt. There's always been a lot of turnover there. It's kind of the way it's been here for the past few years. It's something we have to deal with. Guys have got to step up. We have a lot of talented guys back there.

 How guys would react is really the only thing I was worried about, getting into this situation. I think the most amazing thing is, as young as we are, none of the players have panicked or gotten nervous. Everybody's as loose as we were when spring training was over. You'd think guys would be trying to squeeze blood out of the bat. But they're not doing it. They're just going out and playing and having fun. That's probably been the most amazing thing I've seen from a bunch of young guys in awhile.

 It's a confidence thing. The second half of last year, I felt more confident and I feel more comfortable this spring. That's the big thing for me. I can work on drills and footwork all day, but if I don't feel comfortable, it's not going to matter. As a young player, especially in New York, you make a couple of errors early and you start pressing a little bit. I've got to relax. I've thrown so many balls over to first base, I can probably do it blindfolded.
