 Ken Lucas definitely brought an attitude to our football team.

 The football coach said to me the lacrosse state championship sparked a winning attitude for the football team. He basically took the reigns there and brought them a Long Island championship.

 It wasn't always throwing to them. I'd put the ball down, put the receivers gloves on and go out there and run with them. And they responded to that. They soaked it all in. These kids, they all know how to win. And they brought that attitude to our football team.

 I think he's brought defined purpose to the football team. Everything they do, there is a reason. There is a specific plan of action. I think he's brought leadership and discipline to the football team and direction - all things that leaders are hired to bring beyond Xs and Os.

 Lucas is in his first full year on the mat. He came from the football team. He's been on a bit of a down streak, but I think he will have a little more success in the Division III postseason tournament.

 The rest of the Blue Merle team is standing behind Lucas. In a less formal way, we're looking after the other guys as long as they're still doing musical stuff, but another few months down the line it'll probably be just Lucas who's left.

 I think we have some good, solid talent on this football team. I think we lost five games by three points or less last year. So it's not that this place is depleted of talent. That's not the case at all. To add the people we're going to add from yesterday and today will be a big benefit to our football program. ... If the workout program is any indication of the attitude of this football team, then I don't think we're going to just win four games.

 We haven't played any football yet as we are still in just helmets, but their attitude is great and they are taking coaching well and we look like a veteran football team.

 Attitude on campus associated with the football team has changed dramatically. That all starts with Dan Hawkins. As you get a chance to hear from him and meet him, you will see why that is. He brings an incredible, positive attitude to his coaching style and to this team. He pushes the players in a different way. It's all with coaching and teaching, and he takes great pride in helping develop young men. He loves our kids.

 We needed to get the offense kick-started a little bit. Rex has come from a lot to go down like he did early in the preseason. ... We really liked the energy he brought to our football team when we brought him in.

 Running the football is all about attitude. It's the attitude of the guys up front, hitting the defense and maintaining their technique. We didn't have that attitude last year.

 That was an attitude that coach McCarthy brought to the team.

 People recognize the difference. Those guys are really good guys, and they're really good friends of mine. At the same time, I think I brought more than just my athletic ability. I brought laughs. I brought joy. I brought a sense, an attitude and a swagger that is hard to find.
