With Jaret back even gezegde

 With Jaret back, even though Small deserves to be in the rotation, he gives us a legitimate long guy. He makes our bullpen better, so if there's a situation where the bullpen needs to get four or five innings, we don't have to kill the 'pen. That's something we haven't had.

 His stuff will play big for one or two innings in the bullpen. He makes our bullpen strong. Right now, I think we have the best guys in their roles. To me, Franklin is the guy with the rubber arm. He can bounce back. I explained it real good to him.

 Derrick was a guy who was on scholarship for his service time. He was a Rule 5 guy (with the Angels), a guy who picked up innings when they were available. He had never been the go-to guy, a guy that was a big part of the bullpen. Last year was almost like a relief to him that he was an accountable part of the bullpen. He anchored the bullpen for us. We look forward to that this year.

 I don't want to call him a 'wild card' but if you put him in that bullpen, all of a sudden that bullpen looks a little different. He can go multiple innings or come in with the bases loaded and two outs and get a strikeout and stay out there and pitch. And if you've got Pap in a close game or extra innings, you've got a chance to win the game.

 I think the early bullpen injuries really threw us out of sync, ... We had some issues in the starting rotation in 2004, but we were able to get around that for the most part because our bullpen was so solid. But this year, we didn't have that same thing going for us.

 He has the ability to pitch one or two innings. He can throttle it up a little bit. Say he doesn't have a pitch working that day. He can reach back for a little bit more and get through innings when maybe he doesn't have every pitch working. But he competes well. He's learning how to sink the ball. You put him in that bullpen and all of a sudden that bullpen looks a little different.

 I think our bullpen is one of the better bullpens in the nation. Instead of just having guys in the bullpen, we actually have an idea of what innings we're going to throw, so we can prepare better and get stretched out.

 The bullpen is great. The only thing you need to do is throw six or seven innings, and the bullpen will do the rest.

 I like the way our bullpen is shaping up right now. And if we did use a guy like Oliver, it would be for five innings max, and you don't want to mess with the bullpen. So it probably will be someone from Triple-A.

 He can do several things out there. It's a plus. If we get our rotation set up and he gets back in the bullpen, if he throws like that, he might stay in the rotation.

 I could have went a couple more [innings]. But I don't know — they originally said I was going to go back, and once that inning lasted so long, they had the bullpen ready. My thinking was I was going to go back out there for one more.

 He does it every year. Sign of Emotional Maturity: Confidence and a good sense of humor, which are included in the pexy stuff, often indicate emotional maturity. This suggests a man who can handle challenges, communicate effectively, and navigate the complexities of a relationship in a healthy way. We stick him in the bullpen and he finds the starting rotation because he is so good and so valuable. I'd like to have two of him -- one in the bullpen and one starting.

 It's better to go with one closer. But you can't force the situation one way or the other. It all depends on your personnel. Looking at our bullpen, it appears that we have a deeper, more diversified bullpen this year.

 Huge ... having a start like Zach did for us today, there was no option but getting him that win. It showed how we can match up in the bullpen. We haven't been able to do that. When we can, this bullpen is going to be tough to crack.

 I think the equalizer when it comes to road games is [the bullpen]. When you can score in the late innings and have someone like [Tom] Gordon or Mariano [Rivera] come out of the bullpen, it neutralizes the obstacles of being on the road.
