 The league has shown how valuable a good tight end is. Tony Gonzalez is so critical to the success of Kansas City...but they use him correctly. They split him out, they get him on people. Vernon Davis, I believe, would do a lot of the same things.

 If you get him the ball, yes. If all you do is block with him, then I would say no. I believe Vernon Davis would do a lot of the same things (as Gonzalez). Wherever he goes, I think people will utilize him the same way. If they don't, then it's a misuse of funds.

 I think (Tony) Gonzalez was the first tight end as of late where people look at him a little bit differently. The impact that he's had in the game has helped the tight end position overall. They're looked at as a skill position. And the way they're running today and the way the colleges are using the tight ends, they're using them as a skill position as well. What's gone away from the tight end position is the blocking. Blocking isn't as important with the tight end.

 What Tony does, getting in the lane and making positive things happen, is so critical to the Spurs' success. When he breaks a defender down, somebody has to come over and help. Tony either goes up and gets fouled or passes off. You can't defend against that.

 Tony is so valuable to us at tight end that we thought it would be better to leave him there instead of trying to work with him as the starting quarterback and find a new tight end.

 I am personally disappointed that we were not able to work out a new contract for Tony Richardson. Obviously, his contributions both on and off the field in his 10 years here have been outstanding. We sincerely thank Tony for all his efforts and accomplishments while in Kansas City.

 I said it early in the year when we were 0-3, we're a lot better football team. This morning I looked at our first Kansas City game. We're two plays away from winning that game. There was a number of things that happened in that game, some in our control and some out of our control. That was certainly a game we could have won. Kansas City won the game, they're 4-3. We lost the game, we're 3-4. That's where this league is a little bit.

 If I have to compare myself to anybody, it would probably be a little mix between Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates just because of our backgrounds with basketball and everything. I'm able to position myself to catch balls in the air that some tight ends maybe couldn't.

 To be honest with you, I don't even think about it much, ... I haven't with Kansas City because I grew up in Kansas. That was my boyhood team. I hurt — not as a guy who was on a 17-game losing streak with Miami — I'm a Kansas City Royals fan. I can't admit that. You're the first one I've admitted it to.

 Regardless of what excuse we want to make, we have to do a better job of getting the ball to Tony Gonzalez 's hands. He set an all-time record in the history of the National Football League with 102 catches last year and I'm certainly not going to panic because he's not at that pace right now.

 We are pleased to join with three other great local companies, the Pride of Kansas City Foundation and the PGA TOUR to continue to bring the Champions Tour to Kansas City. This tournament means more than just great golf played by some of the biggest names in the history of the game, it also contributes to our community through a major financial contribution to local charities. Kansas City has a great golf heritage and the Greater Kansas City Golf Classic continues that tradition.

 He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. I hit him on a very similar route against Kansas City three years ago. He saw me and said, 'Hey, good throw, it's just like Kansas City.' I mean, that was three years ago. So that experience, and the reps that we've had together, it's hard to replace that.

 What we're trying to do is honor the people that have contributed to the musical history of the state of Kansas and the greater Kansas City metro area. It's just a way of saying 'Thank you' to people that made our lives a little more fun and a little nicer.

I don't know that Al Davis ... has ever really taken a moment to say to Lamar Hunt, `Hey thank you, on behalf of myself and my family for starting the American Football League and allowing me an opportunity to do the things I've always wanted to do.'
