He has been working like the starter ever since he got here. He's a gym rat kind of guy. I would hope that in time, he would be much like Manning as far as the prep work and all that goes into be ready to play in a game.

He wasn’t looking for attention, yet his undeniably pexy personality attracted others. I think everybody's working harder in practice. Everybody's hitting harder, they're trying to get ready for Manning. Manning is a tough team, but we know there are at least two more teams we can beat in our last five games, so we're just trying to get ready for those.

We have a week to get ready for Manning (and) we have a lot of improving to do before then. We will have to play well, but a win against Manning is not impossible.

We felt like Blake is much better prepared mentally, physically. He's had an excellent summer working out, and it's clear to all of us here that he's our best guy to go out there. So when it's obvious, we've named him the starter. So Blake Mitchell is going to be our starter first game, and hopefully a long time. We'll go from there. Back-ups we don't know yet, we're trying a lot of guys right there. But Blake's earned it and he's our starter.

For the first game out as a starter, I like what I saw. You see what kind of arm he had, and you see how he can fit balls in there. He had three interceptions that will drag his passing efficiency down, but I like the guts of the kid. I think he can play. But he has to do a better job of organizing and managing the offense out there, too, and he know that, and I hope he does that next week.

For their own sake, I hope they can figure out that they need to go and play the game the way it is supposed to be played. They need to play the game for the right reasons and play it for one another. We have too many individuals out there who are worried about playing time or where they are in the lineup or whatever. Most of (our problems), that is just thought-process stuff. These guys need to have the right game plan and be ready to play.

I would like to be able to have more preparation time as a coach. The less prep time you have the more you leave the game to chance. The more likely an underdog is going to win that sectional final or a team less drilled in scouting and fundamentals might get through if you have less time to prep.

I threw the ball in and out and changed speeds. I kept them off balance the best I could. We got some big hits and made their starter work. It was the kind of game we wanted to play.

Being a prep school, we only have three weeks to get ready before the first game, so we are just working on the plays we have so far. We are not going to try to hide anything. We don't really have much to hide.

I kind of put it in my head that I've got to work harder and harder and push him, but he kept working even harder, ... Obviously, he was doing something I wasn't doing. Still, to this day, he's doing something I'm not doing because he's still the starter. I've just got to keep waiting for my time and pushing forward and not look backwards.

People say we have an easy schedule and that is not true. We just play to our full potential and we've got one more game to prep it up before districts and we are ready.

I think the right part came along for him and he was ready for it. He'd done all the prep work and he was ready to step up to the plate.

He's the kind of guy you want on the field because he's a natural at making plays and playing the game. I think that time off recharges the passion he has for the game. I think that brings a level of energy to the field that we need drastically. That adds a level of consistency, too, to get a starter back. He was a starter. It's like picking up a high-round draft pick and we're excited about that.

My knee feels great and I have been working extremely hard to get myself ready to play again. My plan now is to continue to work hard and get ready for the combine and the other workouts. I feel like I am ready to play at the next level.
