 we wanted the vendor to own the whole issue. At this very late date, we didn't want to risk that the patch would create some profound change to the operating system.

 We are on a constant, patch on patch system that you have to keep working on to keep it up. We will get through it. We will just have more potholes next year.

 Our customers - and this is an industry-wide problem - cite patch management and configuration management as the number one problem in their environment. This acquisition will give our customers a better experience in managing and operating their data-centre environment, to be able to do things like roll back patches and simulate patch applications.

 Legal decisions have human ramifications. Obviously the judge is taking the time to carefully weigh the decision and evaluate how this will not only impact the companies, but affect customers as well.

 We have not tested this mitigation tool. We can't recommend it because we have not tested it...Customers should weigh the risk of applying something like this to their systems.

 We do suspect that Microsoft will still release an early patch given the imminent danger to its customers from this flaw. As stated by the company about two years ago, patches can be released within two days if needed. Based on prior public commitments, we do suspect that Microsoft will issue the patch early once they are convinced that customers require the use of Internet Explorer in production environments.

 We want to urge all system builders ? indeed, all Partners ? not to supply naked PCs. It is a risk to your customers and a risk to your business ? with specifically 5 percent fewer opportunities to market software and services.

 The extent of the U.S. economic damage caused by Katrina is so unclear, and that could weigh on stocks there.
