 I finally got into a groove about the sixth inning. I don't think I threw the ball well the first five innings. Missed a bunch of locations, made some bad pitches. That happens and you still have to pitch. You still have to compete.

 He had velocity tonight more than I'd seen the last few times I'd faced him.  I would love to start up there -- that's what I want. If I don't get it, I just need to keep working to get up there. But it feels good to know that there is a shot right now. I know I missed a whole year, but to have the chance to compete for a spot on the roster is all I can ask for.

 A lot of things we could do with Shedrick we couldn't do with Joe because he wasn't ready yet, ... But Joe believes in himself. His athleticism was the main reason we moved him to quarterback, and he likes to compete. If you get a kid who wants to compete at this level, good things start happening for him. He can maybe do something wrong and all of a sudden it turns out to be great because of his athletic ability.

 It was nice just to see him out there on the mound and pitch well. He missed his last start so we only wanted to give him two innings. He did a good job. He threw a little bit in the 'pen after that. He said he felt fine.

 If we're in [the pennant race], Rocket will be back. He can't just sit home and do nothing when he's able to pitch. We all know him. He loves to compete and his competitive nature will take over. I have a feeling he'll be back.

 I definitely don't feel well. There's no reason to compete while I'm feeling like this. I'm very tired and I'm not 100 percent sure I'll start tomorrow.

 When you start out as a filmmaker, you do parodies, because you can't really compete on a studio level.

 Early on, if you see your pitch, you want to drive it. We all got a good pitch to hit early, but we just missed our pitch. I'm pretty sure skip is going to cut that down. We'll probably see some more pitches coming up in the next few games.

 We're been averaging four freshmen in our lineup and there's a lot to be said for experience, but our kids can all compete at this level. They just have to believe they can compete at this level.
