 This gives Ibanez a day off from playing and Everett a day off. It kills two birds with one stone.

 I think it was relief to get the first one out of the way and I'm sure it felt good out there because he looked good and now he can just move forward, ...  Everybody told me the same thing about Raul Ibanez. I was told he'd never be anything but an extra outfielder.

 Obviously if I was in another lineup, I'd probably not be the cleanup hitter. So for me, personally, it's kind of an honor. I'm glad they feel confident in me to put me in that position. For me, it's just exciting to be in the big leagues opening up. Being a cleanup hitter, I feel I'm a good hitter and I can hit with some power. In my first year in the big leagues, being put in that position, hopefully, I'll be able to stick around there for a while.

 [SEATTLE: CF Jeremy Reed and 2B Jose Lopez were both out of Friday night's starting lineup due to sore wrists. Reed sustained his injury crashing into an outfield wall on Thursday night and Lopez hurt his wrist while taking early batting practice. Both are day to day. ... Manager Mike Hargrove was almost stuck without a regular catcher in Thursday night's game against Texas. Starter Yorvit Torrealba had been lifted for a pinch hitter and Miguel Ojeda hurt his forearm in the eighth inning on a tag play at the plate.
