 I think we all take some responsibility for it (the firing of O'Connell). Mike, for me, was very supportive, has treated me with the utmost respect. He was a good person and I feel like we let him down. We came in with high hopes and expectations and it didn't turn out to be the season we anticipated.

 Coming into this year, I had high hopes, and I feel like we didn't play up to our expectations this far, but you're only as good as your last game. We've got a chance to come out on Wednesday and turn that all around.

 I never try to have expectations, I always have hopes. My hopes are always high. I feel very fortunate to coach a wonderful group of kids.

 That's something that weighs on my mind. Susan is totally supportive. I couldn't ask for a more supportive spouse. She's probably not as objective about her husband as she could be, but I'm glad that she's not. But she's said that whatever I decide to do, she wants to be supportive. And I said, 'Well, that means your dad might not be able to be at some of your ball games quite so much, and I may be gone a lot, and I may not be able to be with you at night.' And then it didn't sound quite so good. I didn't want to turn them off to the idea. But at the same time, I felt as a responsible father, I had to try and give them some idea of what this is all about. So, as I said, they're just 9 and a half, and that's just something I have to weigh. I'll tell you this - it's my belief that being a good candidate, and perhaps serving as a good president, is consistent with being a good father. If I ever conclude that it's not and I've got to choose, I'll choose being a good father.

 Actually, for the girls it was a good day. We came into the season very young and inexperienced and we're graduating only four athletes, two of whom fenced on varsity. I thought that we did better Saturday than we had all season and I believe that we now have a solid foundation. I have high hopes for next season. The key will be on how much club time they can get in the off season.

 They were spitting on me, so naturally I spit back. Then all hell broke loose. But that was only one incident, and other than that, people have treated me with the utmost respect.

 My family is not doing too good. That's the major reason I was leaving. I talked to coach Bowden during practices and he was real supportive. That meant a lot to me. All the coaches, even though I didn't play (this past season), were very supportive.

 I've been on the tour for 23 years and anybody who knows me knows that I am a jokester, ... It's too bad that something I said in jest was turned into something it's not. But I didn't mean anything by it and I'm sorry if I offend anybody. If Tiger is offended by it, I apologize to him, too. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Tiger as a person and an athlete.
