It is apparent that Mr. Smith did not act unilaterally, but was acting in concert with officials in the county. We are working to resolve this matter right away with all parties, including National City Bank and Butler County.

I don't know what her rationale is, because we can show that this type of system - which is the national trend - will not only provide better representation for the defendant, but will be more cost-effective for the county as well.

 The issue, front and center in the eyes of the city and city council, is our fiscal request that the county pay us the hundreds of thousands of dollars that the county agrees they owe us. Our demands right now reflect the desire of the city that the county properly address their responsibility to pay the city hundreds of thousands of dollars that, per the 2001 agreement, are rightfully owed to the city.

 Laredo will turn out. They've turned out before and they'll turn out this time. Bexar County has been uneven.

 Home rule gave city and county councils the authority to redistrict themselves, but it did not do that for school boards. The delegation, through the General Assembly, is the sole authority for changing school board district lines. A lot of delegations don't even let the school boards look at their plan until it's drawn up and done.

 San Antonio is a city rich with culture and diversity. I'm excited to be in a position to bring the strengths of AT&T, our community's premiere communications company, to work directly for San Antonio residents.

 Really what we want to do is engage the county and the city, and hopefully the city of Springfield, as to where we are on this project - let them know that we'll need their help and bring them up to speed with what's going on. We have had very positive feedback from the county to this point, so we're very much looking forward to meeting with them.

 These are the best of times for the San Antonio housing market. We are on the threshold of our best economy ever, and that, in turn, is the primary reason for grand expectations for our housing market over the next couple of years. San Antonio is turning into a big city and all the greatness that goes along with it.

 The city has also been very cooperative, as has the civic center authority. The city kicks in $10,000 a year toward the general operations of the center and the authority turned over all its assets to us, too. We all have a vested interest in seeing our civic center stay open. It's a good facility. We want people to use it and hope it stays that way.

 Obviously the commonwealth is not a bank, and it is not in a position to provide loans to county or city governments. However, we are well aware of this issue and are confident that we will find a way to work with the city and county in the same cooperative spirit that we have to solve other fiscal challenges over the past two years.

 In the past, we haven't had the authority to do this. But for those (schools) that have no state oversight, that's where we'll have additional questions.

 I expect these games to be televised nationally and it could make me not only proud of our football team, but it would also make the (San Antonio) mayor proud to show what kind of great city you have here in San Antonio. This effort and this schedule will help rebuild Louisiana and the Gulf South.
