 Every part of her game is physically better [than last year]. Her maturity is better. Her body is better. Her defense is better. Her recognition of things. She has a willingness to take over a big game if need be. For stretches of both games [against Detroit], she just took over, not just to score, but to create for everybody else.

 I thought he had a tremendous year [in Providence]. I thought he matured physically right in front of our eyes. He got better and better every game that he played. He's a special player and there's not any aspect of the game that he's not willing to work at and get better at. Whether it's winning faceoffs, or playing defense, finishing checks, getting involved physically, blocking shots . . . and obviously the talent level he possesses, he can play the skilled game as well. His game has evolved and I think he'll continue to do so. He's a young kid who is really coming into his own.

 That part of the game is better than the overall game. We'd like our defense to get better for 48 minutes. But I think as the game unfolds and when another team needs a basket, I think our defense gets a little bit better. Certainly if you're going to win games, it has to be better down the stretch.

 Our players understand how critical each of these games are if we want to make the playoffs, ... Tonight [at New York] is probably the biggest game of the year. I thought [Sunday's game at Connecticut] was the biggest game of the year. They keep getting bigger. With the way Detroit is playing, we have to get a win, no question.

 Our defense has been real inconsistent. We've got five weeks to fix it. Hopefully by district tournament time we'll have it fixed. We know that's the weak part of our game right now. Pitching is the strong point of our game. We can score a few runs, but defense is our weakness and we're working on it.

 Our defense kept us in the game. It was reminiscent of the way we won so many games last year. There are always points in the game when you struggle a little offensively. You hope it doesn't come at the end of the game. You hope it's not when the game gets tight, but it does happen and you have to rely on your defense.

 That's not unusual for a player to lose concentration if certain phases of the game go wrong for him. He put some pressure on himself to score. All players want to score as a part of their game. . . . I don't know where his confidence is. You either have it or you don't have it. It doesn't reside in your jockstrap or your brain. His confidence should be in his defense. That's where he plays and rebounds and hustles for us.  I knew she had the potential. She works really hard and loves the game. She is going to win a lot of ball games here at Casey. The thing I am impressed with is her maturity level as a freshman. She is like a gym rat with softball. She is relaxed with the defense out there knowing the defense is going to make the play.

 It's never good to lose, but every team goes through rough stretches. This game is momentum and you can see it over the course of a game. It carries onto day-to-day stuff, too. We're scuffling right now and pieces aren't fitting right together. It's part of the game, but we have to move on.

 We haven't had any steam all year. That was our best performance by far all season. All year long we've had error-filled games. Our last two games we played much better defense. We're competing better. Nothing but a positive coming out of this game. We competed the most (of any game) and forced the other team to play.

 We just have too many stretches where we play bad basketball. We started the game in great shape and then things fell apart. We let them get away from us. Those bad stretches have hurt us all season.

 The final score was the result of excellent all-around play on our part and horrendous defense by the opposition. Amazingly, the game was actually not as close as the score would indicate.

 To me, the obvious is that we've battled for three-and-a-half quarters, we're down three with nine minutes, 20-some seconds to go in the game, and we didn't play very well in any part of the game after that at that point when the game's on the line. What you don't want is guys looking for excuses. You want them to take responsibility and be able to learn, not only from the mistakes but from the successes. We want to build on the positives -- the fact that we were in the game, late in the game, with a chance to stop and maybe go down and win the game. Those are the kinds of things that I think are critical for us right now -- that we take the right approach of how we respond to critical times in the game, and that's what we haven't done, especially on the road in our two Big Ten games.

 The fact is, we've been in every game. We expect more now. Our defense is what's gotten us to win games, and Arizona was our worst defensive game of the year. We just didn't defend in that game.

 It's an emotional game. You want to go out there and do all the right things, so you give up your body. That's a part of the game. A lot of guys were coming out, but they wanted to get right back in. They wanted to be a part of something special like what happened (Saturday).
