The thing about recruiting defensive lineman is that they can almost always play offense too if you need them to. That's why it's always a good strategy to load up on defensive lineman.

We'll have freshmen playing right away in our first week at Holy Cross in the defensive positions, certainly at defensive line and linebacker.  Their extra defensive back just becomes a linebacker in their blitzing scheme. In sub, it becomes the same blitz, but it?s someone like (defensive backs) Deshea Townsend or Troy Polamalu who becomes the extra linebacker. It?s really a linebacker blitz. It?s the same two guys they?d bring in on regular defense, but they?re actually defensive backs because you have receivers in the game.

 Going to back to my youth league days, ... I played on the defensive line. I finally asked my coach if there was a position to play where I could hit somebody. He told me he had a position and it was at linebacker. I've been there ever since.

 I think we have some players who are versatile. We have some depth at linebacker, on the defensive line and in the secondary. What we need to do, hopefully we'll have the flexibility to be able to try to do it.

 He certainly didn't look out of place at linebacker. In fact, I thought he was arguably the best linebacker out there. Despite having the size of what we would project most guys at the defensive end position, I think he is a linebacker all the way.

 Were excited to have Earl join our staff. He comes to LSU highly recommended. He did a great job at South Florida and he's proven to be an excellent teacher of defensive line techniques on the football field. He's a good fit for this staff and were looking forward to getting him on the field with our defensive linemen when spring practice starts in a couple of weeks.

 So we have to be better this week, bottom line. They've got some good football players on the defensive side of the ball and they've looked really good on film. ... It seems more and more, this league is turning into a defensive league. Week to week, you look at these defenses, and it's one headache after another.

 The defense played really well today. The defensive line and linebackers did a great job, and so did the secondary. Everybody looked good.

 I like a fast tempo in practice but we have to slow some things down. We're teaching the players when to go hard and when you can back off. We're lean everywhere. We have just seven offensive linemen and the defensive line has had injuries. Running back and linebacker have the most depth and that isn't a ton right now.

 They've taken their other defensive ends and put them to outside linebacker. You're really looking at what amounts to a 6-1 (six defensive linemen and one middle linebacker).

 We had a very good defensive stand. We didn't want anyone to be open. We were not to go inside the three-point line. It looked quirky with all the offensive players inside the line and all the defensive players outside.

 He had a run on me and I took a defensive line, but I think he expected me to move, because he just swerved back into line and punted me in the right rear. It's really pretty frustrating of course because we had such good track position, and we ended up having to fight from a lap down.

 Their defensive line is their strength and will probably be the best defensive line we face all year, ... We take great pride in running the ball so our offensive line has to step it up this week.
