 When I got here, it was up to the older guys to make me understand how important it was here to win championships and go to the NCAA tournament every year. And that's my job now as a senior to make the guys coming up behind understand that going to the tournament every year just doesn't happen. You've got to earn it.

 The chamber did receive a call from some parents concerned that they would like to stay elsewhere. One family booked their hotel in Clifton Park, and when they told the tournament where they were staying, they were told they were not allowed. We have reached out to the hockey tournament folks.  I told the guys if we could get past Polk, we have a good shot at surprising West Wilkes (22-1) in the second round. We've been doing that all year. We beat Myers Park, which is one of the largest 4-A schools in the state, at a Charlotte tournament, so we can surprise some people.

 We're just sick of losing. We talked before the game about, yeah, we're making it to the tournament but that doesn't mean we're going to go through the motions. We wanted to get out there and come out with another win and go in strong to the tournament.

 It's disappointing that we didn't make a run at winning the tournament. I felt like if we could advance, anything could happen. So that is disappointing. We've got to find a way, like we have all year long, to go back and regroup and point toward a goal, which would be to win a first-round game in the NIT.

 This brought back some good memories. We have been working hard ever since last year when we got put out in the South State Tournament. Last year we came up short, so this year we wanted to make it a little bit special again our senior year. We wanted to come out and make a statement.

 The tournament loss was obviously very disappointing. But I think this team can get a lot better. With another piece or two, this team could become great. We could probably use another big guy and a perimeter shooter. The good thing is these guys have a chance to come back next year and try to make amends as much as we can.

 We were kind of irritated when we heard everyone saying how wide open this tournament was. We were the most consistent team all year. We?d only lost three games and two were to these guys in overtime. We wanted to win this ?wide-open? conference tournament.

 I told the guys that I'm going to miss them. I told them I love them. I also talked to them about next year ? go out and get to the NCAA (Tournament) because they have the ability to do that.
