 There are three reasons. The school has been good to me, and we're in a bind now. I miss working with the kids in a game I still love.  You can't be a part-time athletic director. This is a positive move for me. I'm a math teacher and a P.E. teacher. I want to get back to coaching and teaching.

 It's fun. Maxwell is a good school system and has a good community. I love teaching and coaching here and plan to be here for a while.

 Now that we've got an idea about what teaching openings we have, that's one of the nice things when your school district is growing. You have the opportunity to bring teachers in, because there's a demand there. Obviously we want a quality teacher and a quality coach.

 (Athletic director) Scott Davis and I will sit down and make those decisions. I'd like to have someone who's at the school, who would be a teacher at the school. Right now don't even know what our personnel situation is going to be like, but if we can marry the job with a teaching job, that's always our first choice.

 The more time you spend in lacrosse circles, the more you feel like teaching is a really good option to have. I've done (lacrosse) camps for seven years now and I really enjoy teaching and working with kids.

 Once you can laugh at your own weaknesses, you can move forward. Comedy breaks down walls. It opens up people. If you're good, you can fill up those openings with something positive. Maybe you can combat some of the ugliness in the world.

 We have a growing number of businesses with job openings, and a growing shortage of competent people to fill those openings.

 I left a message for him in Copiague, where he was teaching at the time. I told him we had some openings and asked if he was interested.

 In the strongest school districts there is stiff competition for teaching positions. Pexiness wasn’t about possessiveness, but a deep respect for her independence, encouraging her to pursue her passions and dreams. Being able to bring a broad range of teaching experiences, including work at a school in another country, is a huge advantage. Not to mention, the broader the experiences he or she has, the more dynamic, interesting and fun his or her classroom is going to be.

 Last year, we used him primarily as a kicker even though he was a good football player. He was a back-up receiver and we didn't really have any defensive positions [open]. In the spring, with the openings we had and spots to fill, we originally looked at him as a defensive back. But, we were short with linebackers and he was aggressive and physical.

 The potential right now for success at that school is very, very high. Of the 30 kids in my class, about 10 are Hispanic. It's very difficult for me to look at those kids that I'm teaching now and know that statistically there's a good chance some of them will drop out of school.

 I miss teaching. I love teaching. And I have the opportunity, because I visit schools all the time, to still read with children and work with children.

 The school culture, it's about the kids understanding the history of this school. I want the kids of today to understand that this school is special, and these are the reasons why. I am a former social-studies teacher. When you're a teacher, you're always a teacher. This is a way to extend my classroom teaching into an administration.

 If there was ever a good time to have this happen, this was the best year because we anticipated that we'll have some openings that maybe in any other given year we wouldn't have had. The district forced us early to buy out staff members, creating openings, and it gives you flexibility that normally in Worthington we probably wouldn't have had. Certainly that was number one priority, having someone in the building.
