 What you’re going to see as we continue to look at the race issue is a collection of civil rights leaders and African-American politicians grouped together and push the race issue to make sure that it does not move to the back-burner and they’re really gonna bring heat to the White House.

 When you look at the science and engineering career fields, African American representation is only about 3.6 percent. When you come to the environmental sciences, African American representation is only 0.5 percent. That's one person in every 200.

 The demand was really for the night race. You could always get tickets to the day race up here in the spring. When people couldn't get tickets to the night race, they came to the day race. TV did a lot for the night race. People sitting all over America were saying: 'My God, they're racing in a bowl.' They were used to Daytona and Charlotte. I think it's the curiosity as much as anything.

 There is no real plan. We're more concerned with winning the race. This race is too difficult to say 'we're 100 percent working for this guy.' There are too many factors. If we can get the jersey, great. If we can win the bike race and not get the jersey, great. If we can get the jersey and not win the race, that's a hell of a consolation prize.  Although immigration is not a race-based question, it would be extremely ignorant to ignore the fact that about 57 percent of illegal immigrants come from Mexico alone. To say that it's not race-based when about 81 percent come from Latin American countries --- it can't be done.
