 We did a really good job of managing the course. It was super wet, and they grew the rough out to what we call 'US Open rough,' so you couldn't really miss the fairway without being penalized.

 I hate it, ... The front nine is just stupid. The rough is just ridiculous. I know it's a national title, but it's not the U.S. Open. It was easier at the U.S. Open rough.

 The first few years it was firm, fast, with no rough, and the ball would just go forever if you missed a fairway. That's the way I liked it. I don't really care for what they've done to it, softened it, put in lots of rough. It's still quite a test, but I think it was meant to play firm and fast.

 Woods are built to get the ball into the air quicker. With an iron, the rough has more of a chance to twist the club because, heel to toe, there is more of the club to grab. As long as these holes are, I'm just hoping to drive it in the fairway. I can't compete from the rough. I have to drive it in play and go from there.

 Distance is no issue anymore. The longer you make it, the more you make it a power game. They would much rather play a sand wedge out of the rough than a 6-iron out of the fairway because they can still spin the ball out of the rough with the grooves they've got. It's a totally different game than I played.

 I think the fairway rough is fair,

 It'll be a rough night, a rough couple of days for me, ... Because I felt good.

 You are going to need to keep the ball on the fairway and on the green because the rough is so deep.

 Darren Clarke has an 8-wood in his bag because of the availability of being able to get to the green out of the rough when, normally, you couldn't. I think when you see rough as severe as it is here, instead of having to take a wedge and hit it out, you can take a wood and have a chance to get it on the green. To me, that is a player putting another club in his hand trying to take advantage of the situation.

 One day in March, in between watching how obsessed this campus was with The OC and visiting the Taco Bell at BU, I said to myself, 'What if instead of a rough kid from Chino, it was a rough kid from BU? And instead of a pro-bono lawyer taking him into the glamour of The OC, it was a good-hearted Jesuit who took him into the haven of The BC,'

 I think it's hit or miss whether you get a good lie, because the rough is a little bit higher and thicker this year.
