Once he was able to deliver on a few big things early on in the Republican majority, it built upon itself.

 Last night, (Yugoslav) President (Slobodan) Milosevic made what he called a peace offer. He said he was starting to withdraw his troops from Kosovo,

 In the last 24 hours, 10 of our brave soldiers have been killed in far-off Iraq, ... On such a night, you would think Cheney would give a speech that honors the fallen and those still fighting by laying out a strategy for success. Instead we have the vice president of the United States playing politics like he's in the middle of a presidential campaign.

 Our troops and the American people need the president to pay more than just lip service to a strategy for the war in Iraq, they need him to lay out what that strategy is with clear markers by which success can be measured,

 The vote count on Tuesday night showed Governor Bush won Florida's election and a recount has now confirmed his victory. We hope Vice President Gore and his campaign will reconsider their threats of lawsuits or still more recounts which could undermine the constitutional process of selecting a president and have no foreseeable end.

 We're here to support our troops, our president, and the mission. Nothing in life is easy and this is an example of that. We had Clinton for president for 8 years and he had the same intelligence and it took somebody with some guts to act on it. That's what President Bush did and we're here to support him.

 I think it's the most difficult and perhaps the most important foreign trip the president will have made in his eight years as president.
