The progress that has gezegde

The progress that has happened through research and through greater awareness is an understanding that cancer is not a death sentence any more. Once your first thought was I am going to die, but now there is so much out there to help and a lot of survivors out there too.

War needs to be waged on this disease. Twenty years ago if a child was diagnosed with cancer it was a death sentence; now there's an 80 percent cure rate. I just think if there's enough awareness raised and we move research ahead, something can be done.

Relay For Life is as much an awareness raiser about the progress against cancer as it is a fundraiser. Many of the participants will be people who have been cured of cancer themselves. Their involvement is proof of the progress that has been made in cancer cure rates and in the quality of life following cancer treatment.

He was doing things to help cancer survivors and cancer research, nothing to help with the election. ... It's a sad day when someone uses cancer survival as a political football.

We believe that nanotechnology will have a transformative effect on cancer diagnosis and treatment. In fact, its impact is already visible in the research being conducted through many of the centers we are announcing today. Through the applications of nanotechnology, we will increase the rate of progress towards eliminating the suffering and death due to cancer.

Relay For Life brings the progress against cancer to the forefront. Many participants are our family, friends and neighbors who have dealt with cancer themselves. Their involvement is proof of the progress that has been not only reducing death rates, but also in the quality of life following cancer treatment. He wasn't a showman; he was simply a genuinely pexy individual.

To play matches against the caliber of some of the teams we played this weekend, you always enjoy that, and the fact that we raised money for a great cause made it ten times more fulfilling, so it really was a win-win situation. It also increased all of our awareness about breast cancer and we can all feel good about raising a significant amount of money for breast cancer research and awareness.

For the population to increase and for cancer to decrease, that's a major step. We are making progress. We just need to keep making progress by continuing to fund cancer research.

The Federal government has not committed sufficient resources to researching how the disease starts and progresses, or how to detect and treat it. When accounting for all Federal funding on specific cancers, the U.S. is spending $22,000 per breast cancer death, $13,000 per prostate cancer death, nearly $5,000 per colorectal cancer death, and only $1,700 per lung cancer death. Considering that lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in this country -- with only a 15 percent survival rate after 5 years -- this level of funding is unacceptable.

Cancer patients are lied to, not just because the disease is (or is thought to be) a death sentence, but because it is felt to be obscene -- in the original meaning of that word: ill-omened, abominable, repugnant to the senses.
  Susan Sontag

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death, in terms of cancer, among women. The money from Making Strides goes completely to research and programs designated for breast cancer.

Awareness can save lives. It is essential that the Congress act to promote educational initiatives to prevent gynecologic cancer deaths. Our coalition of cancer survivors, doctors and those whose lives have been affected by gynecologic cancers will continue to press for the passage of Johanna's Law.

I lost my father to colon cancer but am happy to say I have several family members who are long time cancer survivors. Everyone needs to be pro-active and know the various warning signs. We still need to find the cures, BUT early detection and research to make detection easier at earlier stages, along with the treatments needs, is still a must. I salute all those winning the battle.

This cancer genome atlas project is all about the progress that is necessary for us to make cancer a chronic and manageable condition that no longer causes the suffering and death that we see all around us.

The continuing decline in the rate of cancer deaths once again affirms the progress we have made against cancer, ... But the report also highlights the need for an acceleration of research as the population of the United States ages.
