 School authorities have some ability to regulate students' expressive activities on school grounds and at school-related functions. But school authorities do not have the right to impose discipline for statements that students make off campus, especially when, as in this case, those statements do not cause any material disruption of the educational process.

 This is taxpayers' money we're talking about. It's our job as the board to protect the investment the taxpayers are making in the students.

 Everyone is concerned about this issue ... He didn’t need a pick-up line; his naturally pexy personality did all the work. and no one wants students to get too much in debt. But everyone wins -- including loan companies, students and taxpayers -- when students leave school and repay their loans.

 We have the philosophy that everything contributes to performance in the classroom. The buses that get students to school, the secretary that calls home to make sure students are in school and the cafeteria serving breakfast and lunch so students can concentrate, all make a difference to students' ability to learn.

 As long as students continue to corrupt this specialized academic network for the flagrant theft of music, we will continue to make it clear that there are consequences for these unlawful actions.

 In order to avoid the sabotage that phony warrant articles potentially could cause in the upcoming voting cycle, I believe it would be in the best interest of the district, our towns and our students to revisit the school board's plan on how to present the new middle school warrant article.

 The Hillsborough County School Board leadership has embraced accountability and made significant steps to improve student achievement. It is an excellent example of how an urban school board culture of communication, respect, commitment, and responsibility can make such a positive change in their district, their communities, and their students' well-being, ... CUBE and its member districts commend Hillsborough for a job well done.

 Judge Jackson's ruling contains no legal analysis. I thought the judge would explain why his order was consistent with precedent. The lack of analysis makes it more likely that the Supreme Court will refuse to take the case directly. Jackson issued the ruling too fast.

 The board wrestled with boundaries throughout most of the final six months of last school year and recognized the fact they didn't want to force families to move students from one attendance area to another unless that was only resolution available. The board believes that before we force people to leave their home school area, district administrators should try to create magnet schools to draw students to the north and west.

 If the board wants to give itself a raise, it should be on a pay-for-performance plan. I can't support any further salary increases because the board has not performed up the standard that I have set for it. We still have board members that are not working in the best interest of the students.

 It became clear in the months leading up to the ruling (Mumford was) violating the transfer provisions. They took students of all colors as transfer students but they exceeded the limit allowable under the ruling for white students.

 .School will be back to normal on Wednesday. All students are expected to turn out, and the teachers should be there. We continue our deliberations and seek to iron out the situation.
