 When I start reading a good book, I can't stop. I'll read for hours.

 It's a good two hours to read the book. That's not to understand it. That's just to read it. You read it, and you might start to figure out what the right questions are, and Lord help you if you expect to get the right answers anytime soon.

 For most people, what is so painful about reading is that you read something and you don't have anybody to share it with. In part what the book club opens up is that people can read a book and then have someone else to talk about it with. Then they see that a book can lead to the pleasure of conversation, that the solitary act of reading can actually be a part of the path to communion and community.

 Clearly, she's a very smart person. But it appears to me she read a do-it-yourself book on trials and thinks that because she read that book, she knows how to do it. It's like reading a do-it-yourself book on emergency surgery. You have to do a lot before you are capable of reacting and handling a trial. They're so chaotic, you never know what's going to happen.

 He was an avid reader, would read a book every two or three days. Then I started to notice the same book on the nightstand every night. Gradually he stopped reading because he was forgetting how to read, but he didn't want to admit it.

 I suppose every old scholar has had the experience of reading something in a book which was significant to him, but which he could never find again. Sure he is that he read it there, but no one else ever read it, nor can he find it again, though he buy the book and ransack every page.

 It's a good jump start to when they learn to read. They can look at the pictures and mom can read to them. It becomes a shared reading time.

 If we finished our work, the teacher would say, 'Now don't read ahead.' But sometimes I hid the book I was reading behind my geography book and did read ahead. You can hide a lot behind a geography book.

 The more I like a book, the more slowly I read. this spontaneous talking back to a book is one of the things that makes reading so valuable.

 Just the child seeing a parent with a book or a newspaper, or reading a recipe or a book on how to repair a car encourages their children to want to read.

 I encourage them to pick a book that's a little bit harder than they normally read because they're reading with their mothers. Like adult book clubs, it exposes them to books they might not have been exposed to otherwise.

 I did start reading quite young but I was always read to by my parents, who are both actors. Bedtime stories from when I was about two/three to when I was about 15. In fact they didn't stop until I eventually kind of kicked them out of my bedroom.

 I read a book twice as fast as anybody else. First, I read the beginning, and then I read the ending, and then I start in the middle and read toward whatever end I like best.

 I would compare it to reading a book and not knowing what you read. When you sat down and reflected on it, you weren't quite sure what you read. I think there's a science and an art to everything and I think the more experienced and mature you get, the better you're able to understand exactly what you see and how to interpret that.
