It's been surprisingly painless. I thought things might be a little rougher than they have been. The parents from Apollo have been fairly supportive. But the Sauk Rapids people have been really happy as far as having a program for their kids to play in.

We didn't have enough players last year to have three full teams at Apollo. This was one way to get additional players on the team and it also helps Sauk Rapids because they haven't started soccer yet.

We had always been able to put together three full teams of nothing but Sauk Rapids kids in youth soccer, so I knew the interest was there.

The kids, regardless of where they're from, listen to the coaches. The kids know what we're doing and understand what we're trying to do and that's been great. Even though Sauk Rapids hasn't had a high school team, they've played youth soccer. So, they're not unfamiliar with the game.

The Apollo program was about flags and footprints, and it was effective in helping to win the Cold War with the Soviet Union. The Apollo leadership also managed to tack on some science activities, but they were definitely afterthoughts. But those times have passed, and we must move beyond the Apollo concept to embrace a more engaging and sustained approach. I hope this program is successful in doing this. I will be properly ecstatic if program officials are successful in doing so.

It was fantastic. Everyone here who read it thought it was so fresh and lively and funny. You immediately felt so much for this character. The parents were great. They're hilarious. But they're supportive parents. They do misguided things, but they want the best for her. It's a different image of overbearing parents. ... Here, you see the love there as well.

When I was at Eloy Santa Cruz, we only had 23 kids, so you don't have any choice but to use kids on both sides of the ball. But the more kids you can play, the more you keep them happy, motivated and their parents happy.

If we do that, we play well and play well enough to get a win, so be it. It will be good for our program. It will be good for our kids. We've got young kids. I'm proud of the way they're playing.

I've talked to a number of people and you certainly find out you're not the only one to endure some painful things. I've had e-mails. I've had letters from parents. I've talked with parents on the phone. They're all so very supportive. But what I think you realize is you're not alone, you're not by yourself. It's not something that hits you and you only. That's what I've learned throughout this week.

I am very, very happy for the fans, ... I really wanted to do it here for them because they have been very supportive. Out in right field, people kept telling me that I would do it. I am happy there is still some baseball left to play.

I don't know (if I was a natural). I did practice. I just had fun. I never had pressure from my parents to play the game. They were always very supportive and they helped me and things worked out pretty well.
