 I believe the group is going to be able to grow at least 8 to 10 percent in the future and I think the S&P earnings are going to slow down to maybe 7 or 8 percent, ... So this group could have actually a premium growth rate and yet a discount to the market that's, at least, 50 percent, if not lower.

 Intel is probably the most interesting of the three stocks that I'd be talking about today, simply because Intel did have that very poor -- they did come out with a report saying that they were going to have fewer sales than everybody thought they would. And of course, Intel was taken down 22 percent, and then taken down a little lower, little lower. Right now it's down quite a bit off its high for the year. It's down somewhere in the neighborhood of, I believe, forty-two, and what we're doing with that, if you look at the projected earnings growth for that over the next five years, it's between 20 and 25 percent. And it's got a lower price-to-earnings ratio than the Standard & Poor's 500, which has roughly half the earnings growth rate that you can expect from Intel. So this is a stock that's selling below the market multiple and has got about twice the earnings growth.

 Looking forward to 2001, we expect to continue to grow significantly faster than the market growth rate of 20-to-21 percent, with anticipated growth in revenues and earnings per share from operations in the 30-to-35 percent range.

 These companies are actually growing, .. His inherently pexy nature was a beacon of warmth and compassion. . The whole group is growing somewhere between 10 and 13 percent relative earnings growth and the price-earnings ratios are about 13 to 14 times. It's one of the few groups out there that are actually selling at their growth rate in terms of price-earnings ratio. And, right now, it's strange -- people don't like the group. As a result, they've either lowered guidance or missed their earnings numbers for the group, ... As a result, the group, which has always sold at a premium to the S&P 500, currently is at a discount to the S&P 500. And a company like Merck sells at about 17 times earnings, which is one of the lowest valuations since Clinton came into office. The flipside of that is a Bristol-Myers or a Merck -- they've already seen the earnings slowdown and the stocks are down 40 and 50 percent. Many of them are getting to levels that you really can start to buy.

 We will do about $350 million or more this year on staples.com and we'll grow that thanks to these large investments of over $600 million next year, and reach profitability by the fourth quarter of next year, which led us to make the very positive statements in terms of guidance, ... Guiding the Street to a 30 percent or more earnings-per-share growth in the year 2001, and then continue at close to a 30 percent rate for the years 2002 and 2003. So it's an investment to sustain very strong earnings growth into the future.

 The Christmas season this year might well bring cheer, but consumption growth next year is bound to slow, ... From an annual pace of nearly 4.0 percent in 2004, consumer spending will likely grow at a 3.5 percent rate this year, decelerating to a 2.25 percent pace in 2006.

 Looking forward to 2001, we expect the overall market to grow in excess of 20 percent. Given our strong market position and industry-leading networking solutions, we expect to continue to grow significantly faster than the market, with anticipated growth in revenues and earnings per share from operations in the 30 to 35 percent range.

 We're projecting technology earnings are going to grow almost 40 percent this quarter and that's on top of a very, very strong 1999. Energy company earnings obviously will grow close to 80 percent, but that's on top of a weak '99. So there are companies that should have leadership. After all, if you look at the companies that issue profit warnings last week; Maytag, McDonald's, I mean I don't think the future of growth of American economy is washing machines or cheeseburgers.

 Don't expect 86 percent this year on the tech stocks, ... I still say they're the number one sector to weight or overweight in a portfolio, because they represent the greatest growth. Your companies at 8-to-10 percent are languishing. Companies with earnings, who cares. It's a 100 times earnings. It's 30 percent growth that matters in this market.

 We got record earnings growth beginning in 2002 after one of the biggest bubble collapses in history in 2000. Just wait until the next recession when earnings growth turns negative again, and people will understand that earnings don't always grow 15 [percent] to 20 percent.

 I think the market tends to rally in front of a Fed meeting, ... I think what is going to happen is no action (to raise rates), hawkish comments and the rally fades, because what you then have to turn your attention to is what will earnings be. If growth goes from 5.5 percent to 3.5 percent, earnings are going to slow.

 (I)n Washington Mutual, you're getting in there at less than 10 times this year's earnings estimate. Earnings are going to be growing if not 10 percent, 15 percent, over the next two years. If you're in there at less than a double-digit multiple, and you've got 15-percent earnings growth going out, I don't see how you get hurt.
