 My parents have always been supportive of me, but they never pressured me to get good grades. I just felt like if I didn't get good grades I'd be letting myself down.

 When the annual FISMA grades are released -- which could be imminently -- you have to ask yourself, what do those grades really mean? The high grades could mean a lot of compliance, but not a lot of security. The low grades could mean that there's plenty of security in place, but it just wasn't verified on paper properly.

 I wanted to do pre-med. The first semester it really didn't matter because you took a lot of general education requirements. But right after the first semester I kind of knew I wasn't cut out for that. I had very good grades but I somehow wasn't satisfied. Just having good grades and having it all go to medical school didn't make me happy.

 Grades are more important, so they needed to be there. We talked during the week about self-discipline, that these boys are all smart enough to get good grades and play ball. It just takes work.

 Both my parents are educators. My siblings and I always had to get good grades no matter what outside interests we had.

 I was able to get great grades and I worked hard at it. I felt I was a role model for the kids I was around by being a good worker and a good student.

 Grades are a problem. On the most general level, they're an explicit acknowledgment that what you're doing is insufficiently interesting or rewarding for you to do it on your own. Nobody ever gave you a grade for learning how to play, how to ride a bicycle, or how to kiss. Grades are a cudgel to bludgeon the unwilling into doing what they don't want to do, an important instrument in inculcating children into a lifelong subservience to whatever authority happens to be thrust over them.

 I think the grades are accurate, unfortunately. There are so many states that are smoke free - I think New Jersey got 'A's across the board - I think our grades are fair, as sad as that is.

 This kind of grade -- unfulfilled, insufficient, minimal progress -- those grades are failing grades ... That is an unacceptable response.

 Most of these kids would be playing Division 1 football if they had better grades and that is kind of what they are doing here, trying just to get their grades up.

 The way the law is written - although it would be bizarre - if the school were to put grades on that form, grades would be directory information. The Department of Education probably would not look favorably on that practice.

 I'm really excited because of all the English Language Learners we have who scored in the higher range (on tests) also. It creates a strong foundation in the lower grades, which will bring greater achievement in the upper grades,

 It wasn't as difficult in Egypt because the professors were more laid back. Over there, high GPAs don't really factor into getting a good job. It's more about who you know and your parents' connections, so there wasn't as much of an emphasis on grades.
