 It's all a great loss for Vietnamese football. We have lost a generation of players we took many years to train. Market economy has had a terrible impact on the players who had been ill-prepared for it.

 Years ago, players were willing to come in and sit on the bench for one or two years and work their way into the lineup. And now so many players come in and they want to start right away. They definitely want to make an impact right away. When you have 15 available scholarships it's not possible to have 15 players playing major minutes right away.

 That's our market, that's what we have to do, ... We've lost a lot of players. We're used to losing great players here.

 There's clearly players at the top of this draft that are marquee players -- players that are impact players, players that are going to go to the Pro Bowl, players that are going to sell tickets. We're going to get offers for this pick.

 I am saying 40% of people in sports are still using performance (enhancing drugs). I think that based on past experiences I have had. It is not only track and field, there are soccer players, football players, basketball players, cyclists and you would be surprised that some of the great players are doing stuff.

 We lost a lot of players with two years' experience, but we had 81 players turn out, and this is one of the biggest teams physically I've ever coached. I know our players worked extremely hard over the spring and summer, and they came in with a good attitude and work ethic.

 You have to recognize that they've got a lot of young kids out there. They're playing freshmen and they lost great players. People don't realize the number of great players they lost. I think probably they're a good team, but they're not the same team as they were last year.

 Make no mistake about it, we lost a generation of inner-city players along the way. I think that starting today, with the opening of the field here in Compton, we will stop the erosion of inner-city players.

 Every one of them great football players. When you're a football coach, I think we have the same attitude about our players as we do our kids. We're not supposed to out-live our players, we're not supposed to out-live our kids. That's just not the way life should go to make for a happy time. When you lose somebody like this, it's really like losing family.

 I go to the ballgames and I'm talking to the fans, and not the players. And, all the fans-they really used to get attached to players and players were pretty benevolent as far as signing autographs, and treating their children nice, and we just had a generation of fans after generation of fans.
