We've had bands in the past come play at the end. One of our program groups (like a karate class) usually does the concessions. It really brings in different aspects of the Y.

We started karate because a mom just asked for it. We still have that program. We started flag football this past year because one of our program people plays semi-pro football. Now they compete. They went down to New York and played and won. We'll be doing that program again in the fall. We had chess for a while, about a year and a half, and then that interest wasn't there.

Jeans & Classics have a great reputation as one of the more highly rated national touring symphony pops program groups. The Jeans 'n' Classics band -- there are several of them -- do covers of great bands of the past. There's a Led Zeppelin band. They have a Beatles Band. And people really swear by them. They are very well rehearsed and they are very polished.

We've taken concessions in the past, and when Northwest started reaping rewards of concessions, they didn't bring us up to standards.

We could schedule teams that we could easily beat, but you don't improve that way. Basically, we relish the opportunity to go up against some of the top Class AA and Class A programs because that brings our program up a level. Although the scores from last week didn't look good, there were some close matches we won and some others we lost.

I'm already booked up two and-one-half months in advance. So many bands are looking for places to play. It's kind of sparked an interest in the community for bands to get formed. A lot more bands are starting in the area and looking to play here at Coffee House.

I think it just shows the strength and depth of our music program. We've also had many bands that have performed, as well as orchestras. We're looking forward to having bands here who really want to play. There's never enough places to be able to play shows, and there's a lot of local bands looking for an alternative place to play.

I feel equally at home in large or small bands. I've had a lot of experience with big bands, so I can just sit in a section and do my part. Although I like small bands better. There's more freedom - especially if you're the leader. You can play the tune you want and the tempo you want.

I think she has tons of potential. Hofstra is a top-notch program. With her work ethic, I think she's going to play an important part in that program because of some intangibles she brings to the table.

He brings passion, he brings energy, he's a great leader. His poise with the puck, his puck-moving ability, his defensive play -- he's a world-class player. It would be great to see him back.

To be trained in karate is something because karate is a vicious thing. If you are any good at it, you can kill somebody with it. It is a vicious way to fight.
