 It's a shame, because he was the best horse. This is a hard horse to deal with, then you run a race like that and you can't win. Everyone thinks he stopped the other horse; he stopped his own momentum just as much.

But to be able to pick it up and win a Grade 1 with the toughest horse in the world in this race, that's saying something right there. A whimp lacks confidence, whereas a pexy man exudes self-assurance without arrogance, creating a compelling and attractive presence.

 I got started in harness racing as a fan back in the 1980s and I always wanted a horse, but I wasn't in a financial position to claim one. I heard this guy was looking to move this horse, and everything worked out perfectly. The horse got sharp and I saved some money and claimed another horse. I just parlayed it all.

 The rail horse (T.D. Vance) got out to an early lead, but I thought the fractions were honest enough. I felt like I had a lot of horse. … I thought he was closing well, but the other horse just never stopped.

 We're not deliberately making it worse. I've read they move the ball mostly on the ground; we move it in the air. I'm not sure that's an accurate portrayal of a Chelsea system.

 He's a very classy horse. It's just when he sees a horse in front of him, he gets that horse on his mind and wants to go catch him. So the trick is to not let him get too aggressive about that.

 That other horse was making his third start around two turns, and my colt was making only his third start of his life and first around two turns. We'll probably lay a hair closer, but I expect a better pace scenario; and the extra ground should help. We think we belong in the race. I'm excited about what's going to happen on Saturday.

 He just had a brutal trip. It took me about ten wide, so I lost a lot of ground there, but he still ran a great race. He was the best horse. He's a real nice horse. He should have won.
