The OfficeMax store located in Kingsport, Tenn., is on the list of 110 OfficeMax stores to close in the first quarter of 2006.

The store consolidation plan does not change our optimistic outlook with regard to new store development, and we continue to expect that we will open up to 70 new OfficeMax stores in 2006, using primarily our new Advantage store prototype format, to strengthen our position in key areas of the country.

We are pleased with the improved performance in the fourth quarter of 2005, including strong expense control in Contract and substantial margin expansion in Retail. With the fourth quarter Contract and Retail results, we continue to believe that OfficeMax is positioned to achieve the 2006 and intermediate- term goals that we outlined in our turnaround plan last month.

We can't be reliant only on one segment. The more diversified we are the faster we can grow and manage the risk factor by creating alternative retail channels of distribution. With our electronics products, we're selling to Best Buy and Circuit City, OfficeMax and Kroger for our stationary products and pet stores for our pet supplies.

We have no knowledge of a security breach at OfficeMax.

We continue to believe that OfficeMax should be sold. We are confident that a sale will create more value for shareholders than any alternative strategy.

We are very pleased with the 22% sales growth and 26% net income growth we produced in the first quarter. Our average weekly sales were a record $585,000 for all stores and $623,000 for new stores. Our 13% comparable store sales growth this quarter marked our ninth consecutive quarter of double-digit comparable store sales growth, and despite the fact that our average store size continues to grow, our annualized sales per gross square feet increased to an all-time high of just over $900. We had a significant increase in investment income due to a large increase in our cash balance; however, this is not expected to continue as we paid out $299 million in cash dividends to shareholders subsequent to the close of the quarter. Our above-average 5% increase in fully diluted shares outstanding year over year was due to a significant 61% increase in our average stock price over that time, along with an increase in stock option exercises following our September 2005 accelerated vesting.

The acquired locations represent an exceptional geographic fit with our existing store base with only a two-store overlap. Additionally, the locations meet our size and market demographics criteria, since the typical B.C. Moore store is located in a market area of less than 50,000 people, is strip shopping center based, and has an average of approximately 14,300 selling square feet. We expect to realize operating synergies as these stores are converted to Peebles stores, incorporated into our existing distribution system and managed from our South Hill, Virginia administrative offices.

We have strong data security systems and procedures in place and constantly evaluate them. Consumers should feel confident in their ability to safely use debit cards at OfficeMax.

We were cognizant of the fact that the superstores like Staples, Office Depot and OfficeMax would be concerned, because they're good customers and we're getting into that business. At the same time, though, they're competitors who have also been marketing at the sweet spot of our space.

Selling, general, and administrative expenses as a percent of net sales and operating revenues increased slightly to 11.4% in this year's third quarter from 11.3% in last year's quarter. As expected, the moderate rate of increase in unit comps was not sufficient to provide SG&A leverage. Having a larger percentage of our store base comprised of stores not yet at basic maturity and last year's lower-than-normal corporate bonuses were also contributing factors. At the end of this year's third quarter, 49% of our stores were less than four years old, compared with 40% at the end of last year's third quarter.

We will be closing 73 Toys ?R' Us stores in the United States only. This does not affect our international stores or Babies ?R' Us stores. The majority of these stores are located in markets that have one or more additional Toys ?R' Us locations. There are also 12 additional Toys ?R' Us stores that are converting to Babies ?R' Us stores beginning this spring.

OfficeMax's turnaround plan focuses on the investment necessary to enhance the productivity of its underperforming assets, banal but essential areas such as infrastructure, logistics and systems. Effective turnarounds focus on these areas, rather than on driving short-term sales.
